It's Here . . . My 100th Post . . . .

Before I get into the quilt and giveaway reveal I would just like to say THANKS! Thanks for stopping by, thanks for passing along your opinions, thanks for leaving heartfelt warm support, thanks for the remarks that make me really laugh out loud and thanks most importantly for your friendship.

OK....now for the fun part of today's programming!

Here's my most favorite finished quilt . . . .

This is my 39th quilt named Hibiscus at My Caribbean Cabin. It's 97" X 114". I spent 4 months working on this quilt top, a long time for me. I usually average a top a month. The top has 80 nine inch log cabin blocks. The border has too many strips to count!

I'd been wanting to make a log cabin quilt for a long time. The options are endless. You could spend your whole quilting career making log cabin quilts and never get bored.

I think Judy Martin has a wonderful book for log cabin patterns and ideas. My log cabin quilt isn't a specific pattern from her book, but a combination of several.

I started with this colorway. But I did not like the center or border.

I liked the center of this top so I modified it to fit into mine.

There are probably several ways to make log cabin blocks, the main two being cutting every strip the correct size then sewing, or sewing strips then trimming. Judy think's the blocks are more accurate if you cut all the strips to their exact width and length then sew. That's how I made my blocks and they came out perfect every time.

I was very happy with the quilting for this top. When my quilter got my top she asked me what was in the center, I told her they were supposed to be flowers. She did a good job of bringing the flowers to life, or making them more recognizable as flowers.

There are four of these designs surrounding the center star.

And feathers running up and down the dark and light pattern of the log cabin blocks. There are several things about this quilt that make it my favorite, but I think the main things are the colors and the quilting. It's a very cheery quilt.

And now for the Giveaway. The winner may pick one of the following:

1. My Vanilla Stars Quilt - Quilt # 43

2. My Elegant Tea Garden Quilt - Quilt # 17

  1. Wowzer!!! I can see exactly why this would be your favorite quilt - it's absolutely stunning! And, the quilting definitely defines the center flower. Beautiful, gorgeous, stunning, pretty, are all words that come to mind.

My goodness your incredibly generous prize is over the moon. I'm going to cross my fingers, my toes, my legs, my arms and my eyes in hopes that I'll be the lucky winner. teehee!

  2. Congratulations on the big one hundred! You have such a fantastic blog. I love all your quilts, you do beautiful work. And now an absolutely awesome giveaway on top of it all. Wow! You are very generous.

  3. One quirky thing about me - I'm superstitious, not debilitatingly so, but superstitious nonetheless. This is particularly true in relation to sporting events. At home hockey games, I need to sit in the same section and seat every time. I also need to wear the same shirt, jeans and jersey to every game. I wash them in between, but it needs to be the same each time.

  4. Congratulations Thelma!!! I love reading your blog- you make the most amazing quilts and you've been the inspiration for quite a few of my purchases recently- so thank you!! My quirky thing is that I say hello to animals. All animals. If I see a paddock with cows- I say hello. A rabbit by the side of the road- hello. Chookies in someone's backyard- helloooooo chookies! Oh and I love chooks- but I don't have any. One day. So thank you again for your inspiration and I look forward to the next 100 posts!

  5. Oh my gosh, that would be my favorite quilt too! The work you put in it is very evident, and it's certainly gorgeous! OK, one quirky thing about me...I have to read books in order. Meaning, that if it's a series, I HAVE to read them in order. Or if it's just books all by the same author, I have to read them in order of published date. Strange, but true :)

  6. Wow your quilt is amazing! The colours you chose and the quilting! You can see how this can be your favourite. Me Quirky? Everyone knows not to phone me in the evening because I won't talk to them(unless it's an emergency).
I'm tired and no fun and I go to bed early.
That's just me. Thanks for putting my name in
    your fantastic giveaway.

  7. That is one amazing quilt. Thanks for the morning eye candy! Quirks? What quirks?! I have so many I couldn't narrow it down to just one!

  8. I forgot to leave one 'quirky' thing about myself. HMMMM - there are so many. LOL Well, you already know that I'm a processor - I love to do and stay busy. I crave time alone so I get up super early in the morning just to spend time with me, myself and I.

  9. Love your favorite quilt! And thanks for the chance for the very generous giveaway!

One quirky thing about me....Even though I was born in the U.S., I spoke Russian before I spoke English!

  10. simply beautiful quilt full of summery, warm fabrics! thanks for sharing the book and process with us as well. I like hearing about the quilts coming to life!

quirky about me? I have perfect toes. my second toe doesn't stick out longer than my big toe and my little toes don't twist or curve. perfect toes. weird, I know. but much commented on whenever I go to the doctor or given birth to kids!

congratulations on your blogiversary! what a generous spirit you have to share your joy!

  11. That quilt is absolutely, positively gorgeous! Breathtaking! Incredible! Congrats on 100 posts! What an amazing giveaway! Let me think...one quirky thing about me...hmmm, just one? I talk to my dogs like they are people...even though my husband says they only hear..."Blah, blah, blah"...how does he know? LOL!

  12. Great giveaway options! One quirky thing about me...I taught myself to like coffee. I saw so many friends enjoying - really enjoying - having a cup of coffee; my husband would gush "ohh, that's a gooooood cup of coffee." I decided I surely was missing out on something really wonderful, so I taught myself to like it!

  13. Beautiful quilts! Have you seen Judy's newest book? It's called "Stellar Quilts" and it is a wonderful book also!

  14. What a generous giveaway. Just popped over from Rene's. Quirky? The only store bought cookies I like are Oreos, Doublestuffs of course. Otherwise, I'd rather just make some!!

  15. Congradulations on your blogiversary! Your quilt is really eye catching. Quirky: I rinse all of my meat after browning, and if I could, I would brown the meat outside!

  16. That is one great quilt. I have been thinking about my next quilt book purchase and you convinced me that Judy Morton is it. Quirky I think there are many. I am very responsive to texture ie cannot touch rough or unglazed pottery, won't drink milk "it puts sweaters on your teeth"
I have been reading your blog for quite awhile you always make me smile. I don't have a blog and am unsure about comments.
I'll just give my name and e-mail.

  17. Wow! The best giveaway ever. (But tell the truth - you have too many quilts iin your house don't you???)

A quirky thing about me si that if I begin reading a book, (1) I cannot go to the end and read it, no matter how much I want to and (2) I have to finish the book. Even if I hate it by page 3, I have to finish it. It's like if I don't, the people in the book won't be real (as if they are real) and they won't get to do what they are supposed to do. My fingers are crossed too!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I love log cabins too; the border on yours is fantastic!

Quirky - I am a tea drinker but like it plain - no milk or sugar. As a result, I cannot drink that chai stuff.

  19. You make the most gorgeous quilts...I can see why this is number one. Beautiful. My teenagers call my quirky habits "weird" but I like your work better. The one they hate the most is when I sing in the car. And I can't really sing, but I do anyway. I just have to sing in the car, and it doesn't bother me when their friends are with us, but it bothers them! And if I don't know the words I just make some up...I never hum along. Maybe the kids are right and it is more weird than quirky, but I won't let them know that. Thanks for your blog...it's the first one I go to every morning.

  20. Absolutely stunning quiilt you have made. Your giveaway is so generous, it would be hard to decide if I was the winner. A quirky fact about me, I am always talking to other drivers.."like get out of the way..or use your blinker".... or maybe even a few other comments!

    ReplyDelete
  21. One quirky thing about me. Well, we live along the coast and there is a hight tide and a low tide. When my kids were little they couldn't say the l in low and they called it "Whoa Tide". I thought that was so funny. Whenever I drive by the ocean at low tide I yell out "It's Whoa Tide". My teenagers are so embarrased.

  22. Wow - what an incredibly generous giveaway! I love your favorite quilt too. I'm amazed that you took that book and made the quilt your own. You're a budding designer, you know that?

OK, my biggest quirky thing, the thing nobody can believe about me is that I cannot drive on the freeway. If I even get close to an onramp, I get a panic attack. I'm fine on a small highway, I can drive 60 mph or better, but the interstate? Fuggedaboutit! Happy 100 posts!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thelma, what a great post, and what an amazing Log Cabin quilt! You took that block to a new level. I can see why you love that quilt so much!
Your giveaway has to be the most generous I have ever seen!
A quirky thing about me? I could read by the time I was four years old, but I sucked my thumb until I was in high school. Maybe that's TMI.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thelma - congratulations! Your quilts are stunning and your blog is full of inspiration. Thank you for being so generous with your talent and now this wonderful giveaway - amazing! A quirky thing about me....I get up at 5:00 every day so I can read the paper and have a cup of tea before I have to get the kids up, make breakfast, etc. I feel like I need to know what's going on in the world before I face the day. And the tea helps too! Go Colts in the Super Bowl - enjoy the game......piece.

  25. Wow - that quilt is amazing! I love the flowers in the center too. What a generous giveaway too.

  27. Good morning Thelma! Congratulations on your 100th post. What a great feeling. I remember when you were just starting out in your blogging endeavours. From day one, your blog has been full of fun and interest, and of course, absolutely gorgeous quilts. You have a real talent for taking a pattern and making it yours. I really enjoy the stories and histories behind all your quilts. They are all so personal and heartwarming.

I'm full of quirks. Really, who isn't? I think some of mine cross over that line into OCD territory. But a less severe quirk of mine is that I don't peel oranges. Growing up in California, we would sit and watch movies as a family. We'd have popcorn and a big stainless steel bowl of oranges. My dad would peel them for everyone. I grew up with him always peeling my oranges and I still don't peel them myself. Someone has to peel them for me. Partly because I'm nostalgic and it reminds me of my dad, and partly because I don't like to get dirty.

I can't wait to see what the next 100 posts bring. It's bound to be exciting.

  28. I forgot to add that your quilt is gorgeous. The colors are great together! Definately lives up to the title.

  29. Really lovely quilt and just the thing to perk me up on this really gray, yucky day. Congrats on 100 very interesting posts (in the process of going back to read them).

Something quirky about me, what just one thing? lol Let's see I haven't eaten any meat for 20 years...because I don't like it. I cook meat all of the time for my family and friends, but I never, ever taste it.

Oh and your quilter did a wonderful job on your quilt...

    ReplyDelete
  30. You had me with the very first quilt I ever saw of yours... your Halloween quilt! Everything you do, you do well. I'm very impressed with your blog. You are a perfectionist at every thing you do! I don't know how you do it...

I'm sure I have too many quirks, but one that I'll share is: I met Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman in Cincinnati when they were making Rainman. I have their autographs to prove it!

    Congratulations on your 100th post!

  31. Your log cabin is great! I love the colours, and the setting. A quirky thing about me...oh there is so much lol. I'm a celiac and can't eat anything with gluten (wheat, barley, etc)

    ReplyDelete
  32. You are so generous!

One quirky thing about me is that I hate to touch soft fabrics with my hands. How weird is that? Fleece, velour and the like gross me out if I have to touch it with my hands.

  33. What an amazing giveaway for your celebration! Your quilts are simply beautiful and I could only wish to make something half as gorgeous. My biggest quirk is that I am a coffee snob. The cup has to be fresh (it's why I own a Keurig - same perfect cup every time).

    ReplyDelete
  34. Congratulations on your 100th post!! Your quilt is just Beautiful!!!

A quirky thing about me...I LOVE FOOTBALL!! Not just a little, but to the point of jumping up and down and yelling "Run Baby Run"!!! LOL! My kids think I'm NUTS!!!

  35. That quilt has an amazing amount of perfect measuring and sewing. A real masterpiece!! Quirky? Not me!! Unless you count weighing myself with one hand pressing on the towel bar beside the scale:)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wow! I'm impressed by your quilt! It is just gorgeous! Four months on one top....don't know if I would have the patience to do that!

Quirky thing about me.....I can't eat scrambled eggs unless I have peach jelly with them! My grandmother started me on that when I was young to try and get me to eat eggs.

Congratulations on your 100th post!!! I love reading your blog everyday!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Absolutely love your favorite quilt, it's gorgeous.

Quirk-I cannot bite into a popsicle on a stick. The thought of my teeth touching the wood stick makes me weak in the knees. With that in mind, my Dr. when I was young started having plastic tongue depressors because he couldn't get anywhere near me with a wooden one.

Congrats on 100 posts and I have really enjoyed reading them. Thanks for the chance at the awesome goodies.

    my quirky thing . . . I love Mounds and Almond Joy . . . but won't have one without the other . . . I have to have both . . .

  41. Whoot whoot on one hundred posts! As to something quirky about me...I would have to say it is that I finish what I start as far as sewing goes! I have discovered that many of my friends start and put aside and move on and have mounting UFO's. I always finish my stuff unless something prevents me and then I get back to it as soon as possible! I have two UFO's and they will be done soon because I can't stand having them so close to being done...quirky? I think!

  42. Congratulations on your 100th post! You're such an inspiration, Thelma -- through your own posts and the thoughtful and supportive comments you take the time to leave on others' blogs (mine included). Thank you! I can't start my day without C'nD and look forward to the next 100.

I can see why 'Hibiscus' is your favorite quilt. The fabrics and design really capture a tropical feel, and the quilting is fabulous.

One of the (countless) quirky things about me is that I love, Love, LOVE solving cryptograms (where each letters in a sentence has been substituted for another). I like crossword puzzles and word jumbles, too, but I'm crazy about cryptograms.

  43. What a wonderful and generous giveaway!

Here's my quirky thing...I saw Barbara Streisand twice in concert in Las Vegas (1999/2000) before I was 30. I also drank Dom Perignon backstage at these concerts.

  46. I should have guessed what your favorite quilt would be since it hadn't appeared on your blog yet. You did an amazing job piecing it. One of my quirky interests - I love reading about polar explorers. My favorite ones are Amundsen and Shackleton. Congratulations on your 100th post!

  47. Your quilt is just gorgeous. I love log cabins! They do take a long time to make, I agree.

I can't believe your generous giveaway! 100 posts is great :)

A quircky thing about me, I always have an agenda. It's so annoying, it's like I can't relax. What woman can though? :D

  48. Hi Thelma,
Just love the log cabin blocks - and also really love the reds. I wish I didn't have 10 other projects going so I could start a lovely like yours. Can't wait to see your work. Quirk? This sounds a little ocd, but I count. Count the number of cookie dough balls as I make them, then count again as I bake them, then once again count them as is take them off to cool. So, now that I know you count, also (100 blog posts) I like you even better! Anyway, congratulations on the blogiversary, and thanks so much for the chance of a very lovely prize. So generous!

  49. Oh what a great giveaway! So generous! I have loved seeing all the quilts you've made over time. You are definitely a very prolific quiltmaker. My quirk - this is weird - but ever since I learned to type in Grade 10 (long time ago), I unconsciously sometimes type out words that I'm thinking. My fingers are tapping away on an imaginary keyboard, and someone will point it out to me - I'm not even aware I'm doing it. I hope you keep posting your lovely quilts for us to admire!

I have to use Anonymous to post because I can't seem to get it work any other way - don't have a blog or a google account. So this is Anne Simonot, Prince Albert, Sask, Canada. annesimonot@sasktel.net

  51. Wow! What a giveaway! Thank you for sharing all your quilts with us- they are beautiful. A quirky think about me is that I love winter and snow, but I don't like skiing or snowbording. People always laugh at me for that. Thanks again for the giveaway.

  53. Love your log cabin quilt. My favorite pattern. Quirky? I can tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue.

  54. Thelma, congrats on reaching a milestone of 100 posts! My quirk is that I take everything (milk and sugar) in my coffee but nothing in my tea, and I always drink my morning coffee out of the same cup (not a Christmas one, lol).

  55. That quilt is absolutely amazing and so beautiful. It is such an inspiration to me. I love log cabins so I am going to be looking for this wonderful book.

The quirky thing about me is that I always have lists all over the house. I make a list for everything and I pretty well stick to my lists and I get such satisfaction from crossing things off my lists.

And most of all congratulations on your 100th post.

  56. Thelma,
Your Hibiscus quilt is beautiful! Congratulations on your 100th post. I love to tease you because I think you never sleep ... just sew all the time. You have made some beautiful quilts ... but I love the Hibiscus quilt.
The quirkiest thing about me (just one?) is that I do not have a coffee pot, have never had one and do not drink coffee.
My friends think that is too funny.
    Blessings,

One of my many quirks is collecting snowmen for Christmas. Not so strange really until you realise I live a part of Australia that regularly has temps over 110 at Christmas time. Let is snow!

  60. Beautiful quilt, Thelma, your favorite and the giveaways! So generous, considering that most of us entering can truly appreciate the love involved. Okay, I had enjoyed reading your five quirks listed previously, and I have funny little OCD's like double light switches have to be turned off in the same direction, and everyone in the household knows the t.p. has to roll off the top of the roll. You always pass the salt with the pepper, don't split them up! Funny thing is, my daughter is starting to be the same way about stuff-yikes!

  62. Thanks for the chance for the beautiful giveaways!! Quirk...I have to make my bed everyday. If I'm running late and forget to make it and I go up to go to bed that night, I have to make the bed before I get into it. Weird I know!!

  63. CONGRATULATIONS THELMA !!! Like so many others, I'm looking forward to 100 more, then the next hundred so keep sewing and keep being quirky! Your #1 favorite quilt is so bright and beautiful, I love it. I had to laugh because as I was reading about you taking 4 months to make it I said out loud "What took you so long", then I read where you said that was a long time for you. LOL. I truly believe you make quilts quicker than anyone I have known or read about BUT, you also make them with such accuracy that it just takes my breath away. Keep em coming! Okay, something quirky about me, there are so many to chose from. I honestly cannot walk through a doorway without bumping into one side or the other. I have been like that my entire life. Not a balance thing, just don't look where I'm going. When my husband got stationed in Hawaii, (40 years ago) he had to find a place for us to live, then I flew over. He proudly opened the door for me to walk through and I bounced off the door jam on the way in...he said "I see you haven't changed in four months". Now my family just says, "mom, dad put that wall up yesterday, we forgot to tell you." True fact...no wonder my shoulders are always sore. Thanks so much for you generous giveaway and GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.

  64. Thelma, congratulations on your 100th post!!!!! Since we started blogging at the same time, I am sure I have read all 100 of them. Looking forward to the next 100 and then some. I can see why Hibiscus is your favorite quilt. You have made so many beautiful quilts, but this one is definitely special. Beautifully made with gorgeous colors and fabrics. I've been thinking all day about what to put for my "quirky" fact. Not that I couldn't think of one, but trying to limit it to one. Like so many others, I am a coffee snob. I cannot drink it from a styrofoam cup. I have my favorite coffee mug (2 or 3 favorites, actually) that I use each morning. Like someone else mentioned, I put my Splenda and cream in the mug before pouring in the coffee so I don't have to stir it with a spoon. What a generous giveaway you are sharing with us!!!! Thank you and keep blogging!!!

  65. sigh ... i have been thinking all day about the quirky thing i was gonna write in this comment and i just cannot, for the life of me, come up with anything about me that is quirky.

    BWAH-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!

but ... seriously ... i asked my daughter and she actually LAUGHED at me!!! hardee-har-har laughed! laughed so hard that tears came out of her sweet little mud brown eyes (that's not true - her eyes are actually the color of Bushmill's Irish whiskey) ... anywho, she suggested that (among other things) i could mention that i talk to plants like they are people - i even apologize to them ... but i don't think that really qualifies as quirky cuz MOST people talk to their plants ... right?

  66. I have a favorite mug as well. It's a blue willow mug that I received my freshman year at college from one of my sorority sisters. It's still my favorite. In fact, I bought the rest of the set of dishes to match my mug.

  67. I don't think that I have any quirks. So, my mom told me to choose from the following list that she wrote for me:

I sleep with my eyes open.
I talk in my sleep. Entire conversations.
I do a weird clap when I get excited.
I can't carry a tune unless I'm singing along with someone else.
I don't like it when anyone else drinks out of MY coffee cups.
I have to have the first cup of coffee in the coffee pot.
I don't like anyone else trying on my shoes.
St. Patrick's Day is my favorite holiday.
I don't like anything on my toast except butter. Lots of butter.
I am a WWE wrestling fan. Avid. Wrestling. Fan.

See what I mean? No quirks.

My husband and I rescued a labradoodle from the humane society in May 2009. She was 8 months and we named her Lucy because of her black curly hair. I too have a favorite mug which is a Snoopy mug and I quilt with a woman that was on the Price is Right and got to play and won both show cases. She is soooo lucky! What a generous giveaway, Thank you, Oh, a quirky thing about me would be, I can't seem to sleep without Tom Petty playing on my ipod.

  70. Just Love your Log Cabin Quilt and it is quilted so beautifully. Quirky I love the Beach I live be the beach but I do not need to go in for a swim or even walk along the sand, just smell that beautiful fresh salty sea air :-)
    Just love your great blog

  71. Congratulations Thelma!!! My quirkiness? I give inanimate objects human feelings. I recently traded in my car and I almost had a melt down when they told me they were going to scrap it. My car had a name and feelings and I had a HUGE problem with it being destroyed. It's something I developed at a very young age, back when I played with dolls. Good thing (for me) is that I'm not alone in my craziness.. my daughter inherited this bizarre behavior.

  72. Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous. And I'd love to enter your giveaway. One quirky thing about me is that I tell people I'm Swedish. I'm not.

  73. Congrats on your 100th post. I like to drink hot water. It calms my stomach down. I get strange looks sometimes when I order it in restaurants.

  74. I love your blog because of the quilts and the cupcake picture! Your stories are great too!
I collect buttons! Sometimes I dump them out and sort by colors or sizes and layer them back in the 2-gallon glass canning jar I found at a flea market. So calming for me.

  75. Wow! What a fantastic 100 post giveaway! thanks for the chance! Now, something quirky about me... Okay, few things. Not really 'quirky' but...
    - I've been in the audience to see the Sally Jesse Raphael show and the Jerry Springer show
    - I've known my best friend for 32 years. We met when we were 4 years old and have been friends ever since

  76. I love the Tolouse quilt...your tenacity was definately rewarded!

Quirky thing, Hmm I grew up in North Dakota (only has 600k people to start) in the least populous county (500 some in the whole county)...graduated from a class of 15.

  77. What a gorgeous quilt. I've so enjoyed seeing how you amend quilt patterns (and always seem to improve them). It's something that had never even occurred to me until I started reading your blog. Now I can look at patterns in a whole new way!

Like someone else mentioned, I also count. But I like for everything to be an even number - if I am eating almonds, e.g., I would rather eat 8 than 7. I must say, it makes me feel less odd reading about everyone else's quirkiness. Maybe these quirks are more common than I realized!! (By the way, I had to post as anonymous also. I tried not putting anything in the url blank, but it wouldn't post that way. This is Nan S.)

  78. What a great blog! Just discovered it today from Sister's Choice Quilts. One quirky thing about me is in order to fall asleep, I recite multiplication tables. Keeps my mind occupied so I don't think about my to do list.

  79. OK, here goes. One quirky thing about me is I am deathly afraid of spiders -- doesn't matter how small. I can deal with snakes, mice, lizards, etc. (although I'd rather not), but for some weird reasons spiders scare the h-e-double-hockey-sticks out of me.

Thanks for the wonderful giveaway! :o) I'm having a blogiversary giveaway on my blog too, if you'd like to enter. Happy blogiversary! :o)

  80. I can only repeat what so many others have said about your favorite quilt. WOW. It is fabulous.

My quirky thing is, I started first grade (we didn't have kindergarten back in the day) when I had just turned 5 because my older cousin (who was 6 1/2) was starting and I refused to stay at home.

Your giveaway is incredibly generous and I would have a very difficult time choosing which prize, but I will try very hard if I win!

  81. only ONE quirky thing? I'm such a nut, I have sooo many.

Here's one: I always buckle my seat belt in the car...

    What? not quirky enough?

Well, I don't buckle it until after I have started the car and pulled out of the driveway (or out of the parking spot). It's a weird thing, but if I do it before that - I feel uncomfortable and can't get settled.

  85. Thelma: Your blog is a daily stop for me. Your quilts are terrific -- beautiful work, and very creative takes on patterns. Your quilts are inspiring a lot of us! And you always have interesting topics, and good ideas and tips to share. Thank you! As for your quirks -- well, quirks make us who we are.
My husband tells me I have many quirks. Probably my biggest one was marrying him. You see, we'd been good friends for a long time -- so good, that I stood up for him as his Best Man at his second wedding. Well, that marriage didn't work out. And then somehow our relationship changed. So I married the man for whom I had once been a Best Man. Now we've been married for 15 years. Not only are people quirky -- life has its quirks, too!
Thanks so much for your great blog, Thelma. Thanks for sharing, thanks for your generosity, thanks for the cupcakes and smiles. I look forward to the next hundred.

  86. What a generous gift to celebrate your blogiversary! I hope I don't win because I could never make a decision on all those luscious choices!
1 quirky thing about me is I buy one new thing every time I go grocery shopping...I tell my kids it is important to try new things...they hate it and beg me to buy the food they like :)
1 quilty quirky thing is I never throw anything out, except bits of beige thread...I keep everything else, every scrap of fabric no matter how small!

  87. Congratulations on your 100th post! I really enjoy reading your blog and your quilts are gorgeous!

One quirky thing about me - I hate beans in anything, especially soups and chili and will pick them out!

  88. Hi Thelma,
I discovered your blog a few months back via Nicole and love your quilts (and you're quite the math wiz!). Congrats on your 100th post and thanks for being so helpful and inspiring in your corner of the quilting world. Hummm...as far as quirky...well, I'm an Aquarius so mostly quirky by nature but one of my favorite quirks is taking our dog for a car ride after we come in from our walk in the morning. He loves the car! We are a fixture in our neighborhood and everyone waves as we slowly cruise by. As a matter of fact, I'm loading him up soon to ride over to the quilt shop with me! Congrats again! - Christi

One quirky thing about me....I like to eat meat, but I HATE to touch raw meat. When I'm cooking I'll use tongs to pick up meat, and if I must touch it I wear gloves. I also hate bones in meat. I won't eat chicken wings because I'll have to touch the bones with my teeth!

  95. Wow - what an incredibly generous giveaway. I just recently discovered your blog and have really enjoyed going back through all your previous posts. Your blog is so inspiring. Hmm - quirks?? I count motorhomes and fifth wheels we pass on the highway. One day I happened to notice that there were tons on the road and started counting how many we passed. Now I just unconciously count them almost every time I am on the freeway.

  96. Amazing giveaway! One quirky thing about me??? I'm not ADD at all, but must be when it comes to quilting. I have 3-4 projects going at once all the time because I can't stand to work on one quilt for too long. So, 3-4 in process of making the top and 3-4 in process of being hand quilted. If I would just concentrate any of them would be done in 3 days....but no, I flitt and flutter from project to project. *smile*

  97. I absolutely love your blog(it's required reading every morning at my house before I go do my exercising), your quilt pics, and the fact that you frequently use the color red in your quilts. One of my personal favorite quilts is your "Sassy Toulouse"!!! How you manage to get so much done so perfectly amazes me.
You motivate me but I'm also envious. Now the one quirky thing I'll share is I love fresh peaches--minus the fuzzy skin. Leona stamper232003@yahoo.com

  98. Love your quilts and congratulations on your 100th blog post! There are so many quirky things to choose from. I would have to say sitting bolt upright in the middle of the night shouting out some word or phrase, scaring my poor husband to death. 100. I love your log cabin quilt. I understand why it's a favorite.

One quirky thing about me is that when I started making quilts in 2001, I started with applique. It was only the beginning of 2008 that I began piecing quilts. I was lucky enough to win a ribbon on a pieced quilt last year at a quilt show.

  101. Beautiful quilts. As for quirks....If I have a cup of tea, the milk has to be in the cup before you pour in the tea. For some reason this logic doesn't cross over to coffee!

  102. When I look at your quilt work I say "WOW" & "AWESOME"!! What a gift you have in your hobby. I like how you have numbered and named all your quilts and know how many pieces are in them. That inspires me to keep better track of my work. I am impressed with how many quilts you have made in not very many years.
All to say, I enjoy your blog!!
As far as quirky things--I would say it would be that 35 years ago, my boyfriend proposed to me on a Friday, the 13th, and we were married 6 months later on a Friday the 13th. My then boyfriend, now hubby, had done a little looking at the calendar. No...we are not superstitious.

And passage doors have to be open or closed; nothing in between.

  106. Sorry just realized I forgot to say something quirky about myself, hope this doesn’t through off the count (my other post is two up I believe)

My quirky thing is that I ONLY like peanut butter on a peanut butter sandwich. I absolutely cannot stand it any other way. Even when I am making the sandwich and I get a little on myself from the jar, I can’t lick it off because it is so gross to me. And the funny part is, I don’t even go light on the pb when I make the sandwich!! Very very quirky. :)

One of my quirks is that I have to sit with my back to the wall in restaurants - I don't want to get whacked with a cannoli! My husband says it's not really a risk ... but I don't believe him.

  112. Hi Thelma! I found your blog through Nicole (Sister's Choice). I've been having a wonderful time going back in history with your entries.

My quirky thing. . .I have to complete a book once I start it --- even if I hate the book!

There was one book that took me 5 years to read (Secrets of the Temple) -- it was about how the Federal Reserve manages the money flow in the US. Talk about dry reading!

Okay - I play the double bass. Strange, but true.

And I Iike traveling on my own. I got married about 5 years ago - and that has put a stop to that - what was fine when I was single seems to freak DH out..... Apparently it was safe for me to backpack alone around the world, but not to get the train to the beach for a weekend...

My quirky thing? Oh man, there are sooo many! I have to rinse off my ice before using it in soda. I cannot bring myself to buy jewelry from a Pawn Shop. (There is just something really sad about it to me!) Also, my feet are different sizes. Now that last one is just a pain in the butt I tell you!
    Thanks for the giveaway!

I think the most quirky thing about me is that I'm a physician who quit after 10 years of practice to stay home with my kids...we homeschool...and I have dairy goats...right now I'm milking 11 does twice a day...a far cry from being in the office every day.

OK, here is a very quirky thing about me. Growing up, I always said that I would never be like my mother. She was always singing and baby talking to the dogs and my brother.... Well, fast forward 20 years and I am soooo my mother! I sing to my dogs ALL the time!! During commercials, when making dinner, when heading to bed.... ALL the time!!! And now, I'm starting to wonder just how much my neighbors can hear when I get the dogs howling.... ;)

  120. I love your favorite quilt too! I am currently working on a log cabin quilt. Quirks? Many and varied! But here is one: I love salsa, ketchup, and cooked tomatoes...but hate raw tomatoes! We had a farm when I was small and I had to hoe rows and rows and rows of tomatoes. Guess I just got sick of them! Thank you for your generosity, and congratulations on your blogiversary.

  127. Congratulations on your 100th post. Quirky? My kids compare me to Lucy, as in Lucy Ricardo, in all my actions! That probably qualifies me as having many quirks.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Quirky? As I told my husband recently, he should consider any of my quirks as just endearing qualities about me, understanding, or course, that I was still free to think of any of his quirks as annoying.

I guess a quirky thing about me as a quilter is that I am always in such a hurry that I skip steps or don't bother to read through all of the directions -- sometimes making many needless mistakes in my haste. However, I am compulsive about pinning and pressing. My recklessness just does not seem to go with the obsessive pinning and ironing.

    Congratulations on your 100th post!

  129. I just won the Feathered Star Book at my monthly strip club class...how fun to see your version. It is beautiful. I'm new to your blog and already checking in with you daily. Quirky? 131. What a great celebration and a generous gift!
Quirky, eh? My family thinks that everything about me is quirky. I can only think of 2:
I open and close drawers over and over again, take the toothbrush out, close the drawer, open it again to take out the deodorant, close it, open it to put the deodorant away, close it, open it to take the eyeliner out, close it, open it to take out the lib balm, close it...etc; all this in the same 60 seconds. This drives DH insane.

  132. Wow, I do so love your log cabin quilt. I made a black and white one (currently sleeping under it) but now I think I may NEED to make a brighter one. And I love the star setting.
Quirky? Well, mostly it is that I can't be working on only one project at any time. I must have at least 3-4 projects going because I like varitey almost as much as I love the sense of accomplishment when I have finished a quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  133. My quirky things is.... I really hate the sound of styrofoam. The squeaky sound of it is worse than nails running down a blackboard to me. I'll run out of the room with my fingers in my ears screaming. Everyone in my family thinks it's really funny. Thanks for the great giveaway and Congrats on your 100th post!

A quirky thing about me...I cannot sleep at night unless I've read a bit of a book. A book. Not a magazine. When I get low on books to read, I get antsy. Like an addict. Seriously. My husband has gotten used to making sure I have enough books in the house to read.

  139. Hi Thelma, You continue to amaze me with your generousity! Winning one of your quilts would be like winning Lotto LOL! My quirky thing happened about 20 years ago. Before moving to southeastern Illinois four years ago. I lived in a suburb of Chicago and was a busy girl working long hours and not much time to sew. I loved quilts and always wanted to own one. I saw an ad in our local paper of a quilt show. I eagerly awaited that Saturday and off I went to the quilt show, armed with my checkbook. When I got there the lady said "that will be $5 for the entrance fee" I said to her "why would you have to pay to go in to "buy" a quilt. She kindly smiled and said "you don't buy the quilts, you admire them." I left, sadly with no quilt! After moving down here, the first thing I did was to join our church and then a quilt guild. Now I eagerly await the start of the spring quilt shows to admire these works of art. I learned to quilt through the friendships I've made at the guild and workshops I've attended. Now I've made several baby quilts and wall hangings. Still haven't made one large enough for our bed - but I know I will someday. Thanks for your blog and congratulations on your 100th! I go to it everyday to be inspired.

  142. Thelma, your quilts are just gorgeous and I would really like to have one... The quirky thing about me is that I live with a small parrot "LuLu" (I am a widow) and I seem to allow this little bird to run my life. She screams at me, bosses me around and if she sees me put one bite of food in my mouth well she is there saying "Was it good?" over and over again. I get no piece at all in my own home. I thought that I needed a little company after the death of my husband but never guessed that this little bird would now run the house. She is a real pistol. And she loves Quilts -- she has a special one that we play on and she likes to get underneath and holler "Pick-A-Boo"... could we please win your quilt!! I'll swap you the quilt for the bird!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Thelma

  143. Congratulations on your 100th blog. Wow, that's impressive. Your quilts are incredibly beautiful. I was trying to think of my quirks, with the help of my best friend, who by the way is a great fan of yours. I'm sure I have many quirks, but one that stands out is that I like to park in the same spot at work. If my spot is gone, which isn't often, it's a bit frustrating since it's not even close to the entrance of the building. I always park in the same general area of my local grocery store, or large stores such as Walmart, the Mall, etc... If a spot isn't available I'll drive around the same area until one is available. I don't care how far it is from the entrance, as long as it's in the lane that I like.

  150. Darn, I found this too late. But I am going to comment anyway. Your quilts are fabulous. I am in awe. Something that is quirky about me, I don't like people touching me. I have this thing about my own space. I call it my personal bubble and whoa be the person who invades it. Now I am a teacher and it doesn't bother me when the kids get in my bubble, but adults are a different story. I've been known to slap a hand away that has gotten too close. LOL All my friends know my quirkiness and are always waiting for the unsuspecting stranger to invade my space. Watch out, I go nuts!!!!
Anyway, that is a little quirkiness about me. Maybe I'll be able to win another one of your giveaways! I am participating in the OWOH blogging event so why don't you hop over to my blog for a chance to win. http://quiltqueen-kathy.blogspot.com It is going on until Feb. 14. Have a super terrific day!!!

  151. After finding your blog earlier today, I had to come back and cruise around a bit. This quilt is absolutely stunning!! I agree, you could make nothing but log cabin quilt variations and not get bored for a long time, if ever. I really need to get the Judy Martin book. I have had it on my list forever. I just keep spending all my stash money on fabric instead LOL.
