All my bags are packed . . . . .

I'm ready to go,
I'm standing here outside your door,
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye....

I'm a leave'n on a jet plan, I don't know when I'll be back again,
Oh babe I hate to go....

That song just popped into my head as I started this post.....I've not heard it in years but I think I'll be singing it the rest of the day now...I'm like that, a song pops in my mind and it plays, and plays and plays....focus, focus....

My bags ARE packed and I AM ready to go, not on jet plane, in my car....but I'm happy about it!!!

Baby's packed too!!

This is Baby's first trip out of the house. I bought Baby, brought her home, put her in my sewing table, and there she's sat for over 4 years!! (She was hiding some pretty interesting dust bunnies, it's a good thing she's getting out and blowing the stink off! Is that a saying familiar to you, it's what we say, when we've been cooped up several days, usually due to snow....whoops, I'm off track again, focus, focus...)

You see, I'm not a class person, which makes this news seem a little silly, I'm heading north to take not one, not two, but THREE classes with Carrie Nelson of Miss Rosie's Quilt Company!!

Here's what I don't like about classes, the chairs that are too short, the tables that are too crowded, the ladies with too much perfume, the pathetic excuse for irons, having to pack everything up before class, then unpacking everything when you get home. It just seems like a lot of trouble, so I tend to stay home....by myself, like a hermit!!

Well I figured I needed to blow some stink off too, and crawl out of my cave, meet some new folks, and be open minded to maybe having some fun.....I tend to be a little too serious for my own good.

On Saturday, The Quilters General Store in Rockford is hosting Carrie and we'll get started on this beauty...Route 44!

I've decided to use Saltbox Harvest by Deb Strain for Moda for my project. I'm thrilled because, if you read my blog regularly, you know I've developed a thing for dots, and that family has the some great dot prints. My primary fabric will be the multicolored dot with the red background...me and my red couch are very excited about it.

On Sunday I trek over to St. Charles, where the Prairie Star Quilters Guild is sponsoring two Carrie classes.

First up, Darcy

You know me and Schnibbles, I'm always changing them up, but I'm going to try real hard to be a good student and make this quilt as written. I'm going with some light and bright cupcake and daisy fabric and hope it all comes together for a little wall hanging for my sewing room.

Then, on Monday, we start this, Ashcombe!

I've been saving some Simple Abundance by Bonnie and Camille for Moda for a special project, I think this is it! I'm going to go heavy on the reds from that family to make my other red couch happy.

So in addition to these classes, I'm going to meet some quilters for the first time that I feel like I've known forever, hit some new quilt shops, and hopefully find a good cupcake or two!

I'll miss ya while I'm gone, but hope to have some great pictures and stories to share when I get home.

Leave the light on for me......

  7. I go to classes to motivate myself and to meet quilters. I find that the class is a great ice breaker but I have found that lately I enjoy retreats better just because the packing is not for just a day. I can actually spread out and finish something. Also, the retreats designate a larger space for your work area and you avoid the cramp surroundings. Not much can be done for the perfume except tell the smelly belly the first day and hope that on day two you will find a charming friend under all that stink. Lol. It can happen!

I love that you can drive to the classes, it makes life so much easier.

I'm so excited for you! The projects are wonderful and I love the fabric you chose. Looking forward to the recap. Don't forget the camera!

  14. I agree with you on the classes, would usually rather sew at home. But I've taken a few that were very good and taught me some new things. I think I'd love a class with Carrie Nelson! Learn new things in the classes and have lots of fun with your blogging buddies!

  23. Thelma...good for you moving out of your comfort zone! You will be so invigorated when you get home. The camaraderie with 'quilters' is like no other. I know when I have gone a few weeks at home and haven't been on the road to a show...I feel it. And yet once back on the road and meeting up with these fabulous people...it's like I get my fix again.
I hope you have an awesome time!

  25. Have fun! One thing I hate about taking classes is the people who sign up for a class who could already teach it... and then show off!
