That cupcake is adorable too.
Have you checked out my tutorial on Plastic Templates for the hexagons? There are 1/2" hexagons! They are small...the miniature quilters use them a lot.
Have a great day!John'aLeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04745376345664784698noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1282341523536457596.post-24962661180372336862011-02-19T00:04:19.535-06:002011-02-19T00:04:19.535-06:00Needle-turn applique is a very favorite of mine! ...Needle-turn applique is a very favorite of mine! Blackbird designs great applique patterns. The pieces are nice and chunky yet very pretty. In fact, one of their quilts was my first applique projects! I don't know what type of needle you use to do your needle turn, but may I suggest trying Jena Kimball's "sharps" in size 10. They are awesome and nice and long to really turn that seam allowance. Have fun and I can't wait to see your finished quilt:)Jeanie jeanhmaher@yahoo.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1282341523536457596.post-2786199033099532082011-02-18T18:01:48.478-06:002011-02-18T18:01:48.478-06:00I first learned to applique with needleturn and th...I first learned to applique with needleturn and then fell in love with the starch applique method. It gives crisper points and lines. However, I took a Hawaiian quilting class where she used needleturn and I got a very valuable tip. Instead of a toothpick, she would just crease the edge being appliqued with her fingernail. It worked really well for me, even with the curves. The trick was to only crease maybe up to an inch at a time and keep my thumb down on the rest of the applique. My needleturn looked pretty good for not doing it in such a long time. Have fun! I love applique :)Anitahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00166989410057397766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1282341523536457596.post-61844368119758944282011-02-18T14:58:50.877-06:002011-02-18T14:58:50.877-06:00I am so impressed that you actually started to app...I am so impressed that you actually started to applique! Now I am applique pattern obsessed!

I too had thought I only recently became aware of the Blackbird Designs patterns after seeing a few finished projects on blogs. Then I happened to look in my pattern stash for a pattern I had purchased some time ago for a specific project because I liked the design. Lo and behold, turns out it is by BD! Obviously I've loved their designs subliminally for years.Vivianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17845920248231910491noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1282341523536457596.post-31594062502473676662011-02-18T05:38:06.714-06:002011-02-18T05:38:06.714-06:00I've just completed my first needle turn appli...I've just completed my first needle turn applique project. It's very primitive. Not sure how much I enjoy it. One of the ladies shared with me that she uses a toothpick for the same reason you use a kabob. I'm going to give that a try next time.
