Mostly I just buy for a specific project, and will usually buy about 1/4 yard extra of each piece for a bit of safety in case I make a cutting mistake. But when I'm seduced by lovely fabrics that just HAVE to come home with me, I tend to buy 1/2 yards, although fat quarters are always a big temptation. If it is a print I think I might want to make borders with, I'll go for 2 1/2 yards. (I hate to piece borders).
Thanks for the lovely giveaway!Stacihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11183068716476005136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1282341523536457596.post-92116228773374908742010-11-10T07:22:47.084-06:002010-11-10T07:22:47.084-06:00I love your blog. I have two rules I tend to spend by: 5 yards if I really like the fabric and 3 yards if it will make a good filler inner. I used to buy fat quarters but don't very often now: I am using up most of what I have by doing applique. I almost never buy a line of fabric as I really enjoy putting the quilt fabric together, first out of my stash and then off to the quilt stores.Gari in ALhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07695711731891676422noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1282341523536457596.post-7286664303394532542010-11-09T15:37:15.514-06:002010-11-09T15:37:15.514-06:00Wow..........200 posts, congrats. I do it all: fat quarter bundles (I love), the three yard rule, usually a safe bet.I figure it like this. Quilting is like baking. And, until recently, I have been pretty good about using what I was buying. I do know that I still love rich, saturated colors - and the reproduction fabrics. I try really hard to only buy for specific projects. Today there are way too many choices compared to yesteryear, so I keep adding and adding. Yep, like I said before...I might have a problem! :) Anyway, thanks for the chance - and congratulations on your 200th post.Debra @ Life is a Stitchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15853926453946247707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1282341523536457596.post-29972766679109044642010-11-09T09:56:16.267-06:002010-11-09T09:56:16.267-06:00I've been reading your blog for a while now an...I've been reading your blog for a while now and thoroughly enjoy it -- and always learn something. Your quilts are beautiful, and I envy how quickly you can get them done.

When I started quilting a few years ago, I bought any fat quarters or bundles that caught my eye to "build my stash." Usually, it was the color assortment that talked to me. Then my husband started buying fat quarters and now I have enough or several livetimes. So I'm now a bit more selective. If I see a fabric that really calls to me, I may buy a yard of it. (After all, I have a lot of fat quarters to match.) I will still buy bundles if the colors/patterns really attract me. I look for sales for backing material. And, of course, I still visit stores and pat the fabric to satisfy my fabric addiction!!!

Thanks for sharing your work with all of us.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05861040085115172827noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1282341523536457596.post-301497835402281072010-11-09T09:50:56.715-06:002010-11-09T09:50:56.715-06:00Wow! 200 posts...that is awesome. But I love scrappy quilts so I constantly pull and use a bit of this and a bit of that. I mostly buy fat quarters and kits. Sometimes yardage, especially if I love it. But then I hate to use it. Catch 22. But I may have to rethink everything. I hate not having matching border and backing fabric for my non-scrappy quilts.
