Next Up . . . . .

So here's a project that's not red and I don't have to design . . .

Last fall I picked up a kit for this quilt at Pieceful Heart Fabrics in Lisle, Illinois. It's what I would call a "good old quilt". Not a company quilt, not a show quilt, not a put on the guest room bed quilt, just a good old throw on the back of the couch, let the dog lay on it quilt.

The pattern is by Paula Barnes for Bonnie Blue Quilts and is called James River Blues. I've seen this pattern kitted in other shops, but always with scrappy blue fabrics, I really like the looks of this pattern with some browns thrown in.

I'm normally not a kit person, but when I do buy a kit I usually end up adding and subtracting so much fabric that my project doesn't end up looking much like the original. After a summer of red and white math, red and white mini quilts, and red and white fabric, this is just what I need, no changes, no thinking, just easy piecing.

  1. Paula generally puts a lot of red in her quilts. I really like the fabric in your stack - especially what I see of the background fabrics. Lots of interest.

  2. Sounds like very relaxing sewing. These are the colours I am making my civil war sampler blocks with and I love sewing with them...yummy! Hope you don't have 'red withdrawal'!!!?!

  3. This is such a contrast to the red and white sampler - perfect as an antidote to all that thinking!

  5. This is my kind of quilt. Great for snuggling with a good book.

  6. Sometimes you gotta just do it as is. It's like my doing little projects in between the big ones. It's kind of a way to decompress from the prior artistic mode. Just something simple and mindless.

I love this quilt. It's comfy and cozy and screams cuddle me and sip hot cocoa while watching a classic TCM flick in my jammies.

    I'm dreaming, huh?

    Have a great day!

  7. Hmm, I wonder if you will truly be able to leave this quilt completely as written? :) I love it. It looks so cozy!

  11. Love it! I'm with you - the browns are a nice addition - much more interesting. The shop in Lisle sure has some of everything, doesn't it? I've been there a couple of times peddling jewelry!

  12. Your "everyday" quilt is lovely! I don't let my puppies on my quilts, but then again, I make a lot fewer!

  13. I love the brown and blue...but even an everyday quilt is special to me since I am such a beginner!

  15. It's very nice! Maybe not a show quilt, but why couldn't it have a turn on the guest bed, especially in the fall/winter or for a masculine leaning? It has such nice traditional appeal. :D
