I've always thought yo-yo's were cute, by themselves. I never really found a purse, pillow or other project made from yo-yo's that appealed to me. And since I didn't have a real purpose for yo-yo's, I wasn't interested in making any.
Well all that changed when I saw this vase!
Annette, at Sunshine Yellow, posted this picture. This vase is filled with 500 yo-yo's made by her mother-in-law! Isn't that the best use of a flower vase and yo-yo's that you've ever seen!
I'm now in yo-yo production mode, a perfect way to spend my evenings now that Evening Bloom is done.
I'm using the Clover Yo-Yo makers to make my yo-yo's. They come in several sizes, but for some reason, medium isn't one of them, go figure! These little gadgets are really easy to use but I'm amazed how much fabric it takes to make even a small yo-yo!
I'm starting with red yo-yo's. I know you find that shocking!
Here's my start. Once I fill this dish I plan to fill a small vase, and then move up until I have a great big vase full of red yo-yo's. If I'm not tired of yo-yo's by then, I'm moving on to scrappy yo-yo's.
The thing that amazed me about using the yo-yo maker, somehow the top raw edge of the fabric folds down perfectly, to leave a nice clean edge around the top, it's like magic!
Now since it's the "Summer of Fun" I thought it would be fun to have a little yo-yo contest, leave a comment on this blog with how many yo-yo's you think I'll have come Labor Day, September 3rd. If you're correct you'll win a layer cake of your choice. In the case of a tie, I'll draw from the winners.

ReplyDelete850 yo-yos is my guess. Have fun! I started making yo-yos for a project but then I didn't know how to sew them together so I stopped. I have a lot of circles ready in the wings to be turned into yo-yos. Maybe I'll pick that project up again.... someday.

I prepared a briefing for a Lt. Colonel to present to a two star General when I was working for the Air Force, and when the Colonel did the dry run, he told me I had dangling participles...I stood up, looked behind me and brush off the back of my slacks and asked him if they were still there. That got me close and then I started thinking of my mom who passed in 1999 and her birthday was August 13th......so that is what led me to my final guess....813 yo yos by Sept 3rd.
