Two Finishes . . . .

Finish number one,  I got the Christmas tree in my sewing room out and decorated.  This tree should be the first decoration I get out, not my last.  All those pink decorations on a fluffy white tree put a smile on my face.  It's a random assortment of food, beverage, Hello Kitty, Barbie and bedazzled ornaments, but they're all pink so it works, or so I think!  It even lights up.

Finish number two, my Joyful Round and Round!  This is the quilt that will be hanging in my living room next Christmas!  I think I'm one of the last stragglers to finish for Camille's Round and Round-along, but this is definitely a perfect case of better late than never.

This is Lifetime Quilt Number 121
The pattern is Round and Round by Camille Roskelly for thimble blossoms.
The fabric is all by Kate Spain for Moda.  There's some "In from the cold", "12 days of Christmas" and even a little "Joy".  The background fabric is the white on white snowflake print from "In from the cold".  It doesn't show up in this picture but it looks great in person, all those snowflakes surrounding my blocks.
I've even pieced a scrappy binding to match.
My quilt finished at 74" x 78".  I added a 3 inch outer border to give the blocks a little more float.
It has approximately 625 pieces.

If you've seen this finished quilt out in blogland and have not added it to your To Do list, and really, I don't even know how that could be humanly possible, give it another thought.  It looks even more wonderful in person, and better yet quilted I'm sure, but besides that, there's just some sort of zen peaceful quality about working on the quilt that you need to experience.  I'm not sure if it's all the white background or the easy piecing, but when you need a relaxing project, this is the one for you, it was the perfect relaxing yin to my hectic December yang.   I always enjoy Christmas, I truly believe it is the most wonderful time of the year, but some years I have more spirit than others, this year I have plenty and even some to spare, and I think it was working on this quilt that got me there.

Christmas officially starts Saturday at my house, that's when my favorite daughter arrives home for the holidays!  I have a little wrapping left to do and the big grocery store shopping trip, but I plan to be drinking an eggnog latte while I finish up that to do, so it won't even be a chore. I hope you're getting the sprit of the season and well on your way to reaping the benefits of your time and hard work.

  1. Round and round looks great. I tend to like quilts that have a lot of background. Our family leaves for Iowa this Sunday. Instead of getting to see a Bears game, my guys get to see a Blackhawks game right from the Blackhawks Alumni box. This is once in a lifetime opportunity for my boys. Then on the way home, we're stopping in Minneapolis for a Wild game. We're looking forward to getting away. Have a blessed Christmas!

  3. It turned out beautiful! You're not last on the Round n' Round wagon, that would be me - I've only got 3 of the 7 blocks done, but I've been working on it a little every day. I'm using Kona Ash for my background and Kate Spain's Terrain....it's going to be beautiful and I plan on finishing it up over the holiday break, since I will actually be away from work for two whole weeks! What are you using for a back on your quilt? I think I will scraps from my Terrain for my binding. You enjoy the holiday season with your family and friends!

  11. Yes, indeed, I've been in the spirit, too. A bit disappointed that it will just be the four of us at home this year. I love all of the baking and candy making, but will need to give most of it away!
Camille makes the cutest patterns and fabric lines; I could make any of them and be quite happy. I do love this star wreath you've made! Your little sewing room tree is adorable, too - I loves me some Hello Kitty:)

  13. Your quilt finished up amazingly! I'm inspired by your Christmas cheer - as I feel I'm lacking in it this year! I am also one of the stragglers of this quilt - Have it all cut out and ready to go - just need to sew it. Maybe between Christmas and New Years I'll take a day or two and just whip through it. I love every single one of these I've seen - I totally agree this one is hard to pass up. Thanks for sharing yours. Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season!

  16. Hi Thelma, Like Quilter Kathy, this quilt is near the top of my to-do list, but I haven't gotten to it yet. I do love yours, it is so bright, fresh and cheerful! I was wondering too, if you could tell me where you found the Dragonfly you have on your small pink tree...I love dragonflies and yours is especially pretty. I haven't had much luck finding any around here that aren't "cheesy" looking.. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year...2014...can you believe it? Hugs....

  17. \Love your little white and pink tree Thelma :) I spied a pink table top tree last year and have kicked myself a hundred times for not buying it. I love your round and round. it didn't take much convincing for me to put it on my list too lol. I finally finished piecing the BOM I purchased from you two years ago and hope to get it quilted over my Christmas break:) I will send you a pic when it's done. have a very Merry Christmas!

  21. I traveled through Bakersfield CA today on my way south and stopped at the wonderful Strawberry Patches quilt shop where this finished quilt was hanging in their classroom. "I know that quilt" I said--from your blog, Thelma. It IS a wonderful quilt!
