Free Spirit Medley Update . . . .

So here's what I'm aiming for,
this is Free Spirit Medley designed by Judy Martin.


And here's where I am.


It's slow going because I'm doing a block at a time and working from the inside out.

Right now I'm a little disappointed that the design doesn't pop like the pattern, but it's not unusual for me to become disenchanted with a project, then love a project, then become disenchanted again.  I'm going for another row, maybe that will be the next love it stage.

The fabric is by Minick and Simpson for Moda.


Also, I've updated my Tools Tuesday post to reflect some information that folks shared regarding the Starmaker 8 ruler.

    I really think it will pop when you start adding the red strips. What a lovely challenge for you. Judy C

    I much prefer your softer colors than the ones on the pattern. I think it will make a stunning quilt. And just want to say how much I enjoy your blog.

    Oh Thelma, I love it! In the original all 3 colours appear to be solids and are so strong they seem to fight each other for attention. It is very " Flag " looking. With prints you aren't going to achieve the same effect. What I see so far of yours is warmth and richness of colour that blends wonderfully and they all seem to play so well together. I love it and would not change a thing. It is stunning, and I'm anxious to see it progress.

    What catches my eye right away is how your color combination is unique and a lot more interesting than the sample. I think it's because, for me, it has that "Loved" look already that most quilts don't obtain until they've been around for a few years. Can't wait to see more...XOXO

    I love Judy's patterns, but there is no speed used on them. Just take your time, be patient, and it will look beautiful when it's finished. Her patterns always do.

    Thelma, I actually prefer the look of your fabric.
    And I know what you mean about the enchanted / disenchanted feeling with projects. :-/

    I really love your version, Thelma. Keep plugging away and, (like someone else said) the red strips will probably add a lot more punch to the whole visual effect. I'm really a blue girl, so am loving the Minick and Simpson prints!

    The white in the original makes it brighter than your version. I would however choose your selections. M&S is of more interest to me than only solids. The finished quilt will be fantastic.

    Loving it!!! I'm a huge fan of Minnich & Simpson fabrics though, and wondering if what you are seeing isn't the look you were after. The model photo is more clear cut and bright than the muted tones of M&S. I think you will really like it in the end. I sure wish the pattern or the book was still available.
    I like the one you pieced for Monique also. Don't know how I missed seeing that line of fabric.
