Sundrops

Do you remember my Shower Shuffle quilt? (LQ#122)  I made 16 different blocks using half square triangle units.  And this block was my favorite block.

So when the Fat Quarter Shop promoted their free pattern, Star Cakes, made entirely out of my favorite block, I added that pattern to my To Do list while I waited for the perfect fabric.

I did't have to wait long,

I used Sundrops by Corey Yoder of Coriander Quilts for  Moda.

I did add a few additional prints from my stash.

I love Sundrops, the colors and the prints.  Corey has already posted a sneak peek of her next line called Lulu Lane and it looks very similar but with a couple new colors, I think the two families will make a great combo, I need to get more Sundrops, and so do you, before it's all gone!  It should be in your favorite shop now.

This is Lifetime Quilt Number 175
It finished at 57" x 57"
The pattern is Star Cakes, a free pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop
The fabric is Sundrops by Corey Yoder for Coriander Quilts by Moda
This quilt has approximately 531 pieces.

The pattern was very simple, the fabric nothing but fun, what a wonderful time I had making this quilt.

Fireworks in August

Camille's Fireworks pattern has been on my To Do list ever since it was released back in 2012.  Camille used Happy Go Lucky for her Fireworks, one of my all time favorite families of fabric, but I'm hoarding my bundle of Happy Go Lucky so I've been searching for another family of fabric to use, searching for 4 years.  Earlier this year I tried matching up some Miss Kate fat quarters for this pattern but it didn't really excite me, so I put the pattern away, again.

Last month, on Instagram, I saw a Fireworks quilt made with Daysail, and fell in love.   I made the Fat Quarter Shop's Snapshots quilt using Daysail, but I donated that quilt for a charity raffle.  Luckily I had another Daysail bundle that I was also hoarding but willing to use.

This is Lifetime Quilt Number 184
The fabric is Daysail by Bonnie and Camille for Moda
It finished at 68"x 68"
It has approximately 1,076 pieces.

This was the perfect summer project to work on after a July of Christmas Sewing. I think I have time for one more summer project!

Christmas Morning Block Detail

Here are the basics on how to piece my Christmas Morning block.

The blocks are 12 1/2" square.

To make the bow-like center block piece four 2 1/2" half square triangle units.  Use whatever method you like, I use the Easy Angle, cut them a little big, then trim them up.

To make the center look more like a bow and less like a pinwheel trim two of the blocks to 2 1/4" square.

Arrange the hsts as shown above.   To get the smaller hsts back up to size add one 2 1/4" x 3/4" background strip to one side and a 2 1/2" x 3/4" background strip to the other side of each of the
2 1/4" hsts.  The strips need to be added to the outside of the block, see the picture.

Sew the hsts together, that unit will measure 4 1/2"

Add a 1 1/4" wide background border to the center block.

This block will measure 6"

Piece the ribbon strips and cut into 3 3/4" sections. You need 4 sections.

The A unit is made up of two 2 1/2" hsts and two 2 1/4' hsts and is 4 1/2".
The B unit is 1 1/4" x 4 1/2" you need two.
The C unit  is 1 1/4" x 6", you need two.
The D unit is 2 1/4" x 3 3/4", you need 4
The E unit is 3 3/4" x 5 1/2", you need 4
1 is 1 1/4" wide
2 is 1" wide

I hope you enjoy making this block.

I made 25 blocks, 5 blocks in 5 rows and set them using 2 inch wide sashing with a 3 inch border, this will give you a  72" x 72" quilt.

As a friendly reminder, quilting is my hobby, not my job, I'm not a pattern designer, and this is free.  So  basically you're getting what you pay for.  LOL

And finally a big thanks to Cindy Lammon who's Garden Lattice block was the inspiration for my Merry Christmas block.
