So here's my block layout for Belle Meade, I've decided to go with a random placement, and was able to put together a pleasing arrangement with very little drama. I started in the center and worked my way out and around. After getting all the blocks on my design wall, I moved a few around then went to bed. First thing the next morning I took another looksie, moved a couple of blocks and decided on this.
There are 22 red blocks, 13 dark and 9 light, and 19 blue blocks, 12 dark and 7 light.
I was undecided as to what color setting triangles to go with......
here's blue . . .
here's red . . .
Isn't it amazing how the blue really pulls out the blue and the red really pulls out the red? So that got me to thinking maybe going with red AND blue would be the way to go.
Here's some red in the corners with blue in the centers . (1)
Here's top blue bottom red . . . (2)
Or left side/top red, right side/bottom blue.... (5)
So that's all the choices I could come up with, I'm leaning towards 4, not for any particular reason other than I just like the way it looks. I'm very happy with this project, for someone who doesn't really like blue, I really like the look and romantic feel of this quilt.
This quilt pattern has an optional containment border and outer border, but I like it just this size, so once I get my setting triangles on and rows connected, Belle Meade will be done!
Nicole is working on Belle Meade too, I think she's finished all her blocks and we hope to have our quilts done and ready for our final big reveal on Friday.
WOW that is such a beautiful quilt. Since I am a red person I love the red all the way. You did such a great job on the quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love how you ae experimenting with th colours & they al look so different - defifitely worth the time & effort. I'm really liking - left side/top blue, right side/bottom red - doesn't feel quite so imposing somehow & seems to read left to right & top to bottom, or is that just me?!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt though

It's going to be so beautiful when it'd one Thelma! What a decision you have to make! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely leaning toward an all or nothing border. Either all blue or all red.
ReplyDeleteThelma does random! [faints]
ReplyDeleteI love all of the options! Really sweet quilt!
ReplyDeleteWhoooHoooo! Great job on the random placement. I know how hard that is! It looks great.
ReplyDeleteWhat a tough choice! If forced to pick just one, I'd probably go with all blue.
ReplyDeleteWhat about an every other red/blue outside border? Or continue the randomness?
ReplyDeleteIt looks so great!
I often marvel at how much I love your quilts. I never think of myself as liking more traditional fabrics, but I love yours! I think I need to try one that's your style!
I really love the random block placement! But I think I'm liking the one color setting triangles. I gravitate towards the blue since I'm a blue person, but the red really pops - though maybe too much pop if it's going on the red couch? The only blue option might be nice if it's going on the red couch because the red of the couch will pull out the reds too .... oh goodness I'm rambling!
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one who like the red in the corners? I think it makes random looked planned that way.
ReplyDeleteWhat a tough decision! You really can't go wrong with any of them! I like number 1 and 5 as my favorites. Good luck!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI vote for #1. Love the red/blue mixture with the random block placement. I think it is just the thing for the randomness! That way it is not too blue nor too red! Love the fabric...have some lying around here that is patiently waiting for its turn to be made into a lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteI like the red, because I like red...
ReplyDeleteAnd the blue because it looks great!
I am going to HAVE to make Belle Meade!
Wow this quilt is looking fabulous! Every combination is appealing, but like you said you need to go with what you like the best.
ReplyDeletePersonally I'd do all one color - either red or blue. But if I were mixing things up, I'd go with number 1. Of course, it's your quilt, so go with your gut.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and you will love it. Not saying which one I like best because you need to love your quilt the way you choose to make it.
ReplyDeleteEach looks quite different. I think I would either do all blue, with a red binding, or would choose number one. How does it look if you do red in corner, then blue, then two red, blue, then red in corner? Actually, for me, I would likely have 2 or 3 borders, including a beige one or some odd color like black, but that's just me. Good luck picking one that's just you!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your quilt finished. I have been following along and should have sewn along too. I love these fabrics. I would do all the same color, but that's me. I like a constant frame. It seems to make the rest of your piecing pop. I do congratulate you on doing scrappy and random. I love it, but know it's hard for a lot of people! Good job!
ReplyDeleteI like top blue corner adn red bottom corner too. Red is "heavier" and should be lower. Pretty! I've always wanted a lady of the lake quilt!!

I love the red!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt! I really like the blue setting triangles the best - but the red is really nice too. You can't make a mistake - either way or anyway it is gorgeous!

I agree, #4 is the way to go. It gives some organization to the quilt and the red definitely belongs on the bottom. Because it's darker than the blue it looks "top heavy" if it's on the top. The random setting looks a little too "scattered" to me. But, I LOVE the random setting of the blocks. Good job.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, is that a design FLOOR you are working on? It is quite a challenging work-out to keep changing out the blocks on the floor!
ReplyDeleteAnyways, here is one you did not try....every other color...blue, red, blue, red, etc.
Personally, I love the blue setting triangles. Great job with the random placement of blocks!
HMMMM - I like either all blue or all red. Whatever you decide to do I know it'll be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how block placement and color has such an impact on how the overall look of the quilt will be. I really like your choice!
ReplyDeleteI love it. I think I like #5. It has a nice flow to it. That's just me, but great job.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking lovely. I like choice 4 too.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job on getting a random placement of the blocks. My favorite setting is the all blue, but that could be because my favorite color is blue!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a great job with the random setting! If it were mine, I would stick with one fabric for the setting triangles. It helps to calm all that randomness. I like the red, it makes the blue in the blocks sparkle!
ReplyDeleteI Love how you did these options for all of us to share in the visual... I like the mixing of the two in picture three It gives it intentional pizzaz... it POPS...Great job
ReplyDeleteThis really needs a coin toss. I loved all except the half blue and red, not on the diagonal split. If you are not crazy about blue go with the red.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! I love the look with the red on one diagonal at the top and the blue on the other diagonal at the bottom.
ReplyDeleteI am hugely impressed, both with your beautiful quilt, but also with your going random! I don't think I could do that. So it's probably not surprising that I like the red corners and blue centre setting triangles - looks more regular to me. But they're all beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm stumped on this one. I am having trouble just getting over the fact that you cut out the setting triangles in both Red and Blue. I will say that is a testament to your commitment. I think I'm going to do that in the future since I know you would never have gotten the same effect if you had just put the fabric next to the blocks.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you choose.
I would do either the all red or all blue setting triangles. There's so much going on in the center, especially since you chose random, that I feel it needs the one color triangles to calm it down.
ReplyDeleteWhatever you decide the blues and reds look so romantic and it's sooo beautiful.
