I've always got a thing going for the color red, particularly red in my quilts. The last 12 quilts that I've finished have red in them, of the 70 or so quilts I've finished half have red or are primarily red.
The Infinite Variety Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts show in New York earlier this year only added to my passion for red quilts.
I recently bought a binder to hold just my red quilt patterns. (Yes I know I can make any pattern a red quilt and any red pattern a different color quilt, but that doesn't stop me from buying patterns specifically with a red quilt on the cover, it's a sickness.)
What else would this binder store?
And how could I pass up this red lined legal pad?
So imagine my excitement, when not only did Carrie have Wild Air and Long Tally Sally quilts for show and tell for the Corn Wagon Quilt Co classes, she also brought this beauty . .
The third full size quilt pattern she made for Market. I think it should have been named Thelma Scarlett, it's all me.
I just love the detail in those corners. From looking at the pattern, Carrie's developed a clever, easy and fool proof way to make this quilt come together perfectly.
Here's the same pattern in Jo Morton fabrics, lovely, but I think you know which one is my favorite!
Scarlett Queen is 6 foot square, but can be made smaller or larger. Any style or color of fabric would work for this pattern, a real stash buster.
I've got my Scarlett Queen pattern in that binder, just waiting to make its way to the top of my To Do List.
I also have a spare pattern to give away, and I won't hold it against you if you don't use red fabric to make this quilt.
To win this pattern just leave a comment on this post. I would love to know your favorite quilt color, but any comment will do! I'll announce the winner sometime over the weekend.
Official C n D disclaimer; I purchased the pattern Scarlett Queen, Carrie Nelson did not ask me to blog about this pattern or promote this pattern. If I never blogged about a Carrie Nelson pattern she would not see a difference in pattern sales, she does just fine without any help from me.
WOW! Love that binder and your legal pad just is so YOU! Scarlett Queen is a Thelma quilt if I ever saw one. LOVE it! I'm crazy about the scrappy one...put a bit of brown in and I'm a happy girl!
ReplyDeleteThelma, I've said it before; I'm with you 100% on loving a red/white quilt! I don't sew as much as I'd like. I live my quilting dreams through you; hope you make this one up!
ReplyDeleteOk aside from the beauty of the red and white quilt-- think of it, Christmas, Valentines Day, Independence Day and every other Patriotic day -- It's the quilt that never goes out of season. Great pattern.
ReplyDeleteCute binder! Love the Scarlett Queen made in reds! Great way to use red scraps so when are you starting the quilt? LOL! I love red, but I also like dark blues.
ReplyDeleteThat is a must have pattern! Love Love Love it!!
ReplyDeleteLike you I need a touch of red in my quilts. It's the one color I know will make a great quilt Gorgeous!
Love your binder! My favorite color is also RED, but not a bright Christmasy red...more of a brownish red. Actually, the colors in that quilt are just perfect for me with darkish reds and muted tans/creams! LOVE IT! (hmmm...I've signed in with blogger, but it's still saying anonymous?)
ReplyDeleteLove your finds! I think I'd really like to do this quilt in blue and light cream,
ReplyDeleteJo
That's a very neat quilt...and you're right...the corners make that one!
ReplyDeleteIt's a stunning quilt and I far prefer the red version too! I love red (wearing a red shirt at this very moment) in quilts and I also like pumpkin colors in quilts.
ReplyDeleteYour disclaimer is funny! :)
Apparently, my favorite color has been pretty much anything loud! I've never done a red quilt. New quilter. Haven't had time yet, but it's on my agenda. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love red, in fact when we remodeled our master bathroom, I had it painted red! When I have made scrappy quilts that are primarily green and cream, a little bit of red always sneaks in, it adds that special little spark to the quilt.
ReplyDeleteI like the red and cream version, but I'm totally seeing this quilt in red and turquoise! My new favorite color combination. Thanks for the give-away!
ReplyDeleteI just read in another blog that Carrie Nelson uses spray starch on her fabrics before she cuts them. She says that her piecing is much more accurate this way. Do you do that? I figure, what with all the tiny and numerous pieces that you sew together, you must have a special method.
ReplyDeleteLove this pattern, by the way. It looks very versatile (but definitely lovely in RED).
Margaret
Love the pattern. I don't really have a favorite quilt color but I am itching to make a red and white quilt so I am collecting reds right now! Thanks for a chance to win!
ReplyDeleteRed is my favorite too with green coming in at a close second. I love this pattern. It would look stunning in greens too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Thank you for blogging about Carrie's new pattern. I'm in a red and white swap. This pattern looks perfect for that NEW project. I'll start looking for this one in the shops.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite has to be blue and white. Lately, even aqua and red has been appealing.
Have a great day!
I always want to make red and white quilt. That design is perfect for red ones! Cool binder, too!!!
ReplyDeleteSusan
I have made blue and white and green and white quilts, but no red and white quilt. Not yet anyway :-))) I enjoy your blog very much!

You are so generous to give away all these brand new patterns! My favorite colour is anything bright!
ReplyDeleteThe quilts I make for myself usually end up having some pink in it. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI love love love this pattern!!!! I really want to make this quilt. My favorite color to use in quilts is purple. My favorite color has been purple since i was a little kid.
ReplyDeleteThelma thank you so much for featuring this pattern! The May monochrome quilt color is red, and I really wanted to make the Scarlett Queen for May. But since it wasn't available, I went with another pattern -- and I'll be making another RED quilt!
ReplyDeleteI think this is my favourite Carrie Nelson pattern so far. I lean towards the autumn colours, but I have a collection of reds and creams to make a Christmas quilt and this pattern would be perfect! Thank you for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI love blue but red comes in a close second. I am working on a red and white log cabin along with several blue projects. Thanks for the giveaway.

I saw Scarlett Queen on Carrie's blog and it is near the top of my to-do list as well (but I don't have the pattern yet). Love it red and white, though my favorite color is green and I have this recent thing for aqua.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a quilt along?
Love this pattern. I have red accents all over my house! Never made a red quilt before.
ReplyDeleteI also love red in a quilt. I would say a large percentage of my quilts have red in them. That is a great pattern and I would love to win it.
ReplyDeleteI love your binder. It makes me happy! Did you get it at WalMart or Target? I have been drawn to red and white quilts lately.Red has never drawn me before but now i have a real liking for them and see one in my future. Love the clean lines and contrasts. I think this pattern of Carrie's would be just perfect for a red and white quilt or maybe a graduation quilt.
ReplyDeleteOh my Thelma, I am swooning over this pattern! Scarlett Queen would be so perfect for all of the French General fabrics I have been saving. You know, for that perfect pattern :-) This is it!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty quilt. I do love red but I lean towards the "autumn" color wave. This pattern is really a nice one. Love the little set in corners. They really make the quilt. Thank you for a chance to win the pattern. It would be on my "to do list" quick!
ReplyDeleteMary
That quilt is now a must for me to make. I love it. I'm a red fanatic also. I think I need that binder! Where in the world did you find something so cute?
ReplyDeleteWay cute...the binder and the quilt pattern. It could have been called Queen Thelma Scarlett. I am intrigued by how those corners can come together "easily". Please enter me in the drawing to win.
ReplyDeleteI, too, am very attracted to red. In fact, I have a hard time making any quilt differently than what I see on the pattern cover.
Christine Thomas, shoppernana@gmail.com
Scarlett Queen is so inviting...I'm going to start thinking about fabric to use right now! I tend to use greens and reds in my quilts but this one would definitely call for red & white in my sewing room! And, I'd love to win the pattern! Cute binder and legal pad! Jan
ReplyDeleteSo what is wrong with red in every quilt? I was fortunate enough
ReplyDeleteTo attend Infinite Variety in New York and this pattern of Carrie's would be a perfect excuse to make a red and " light" quilt.
Red! Red! Red! I love it! My red fabric stash is twice the size of any other color! I would love to have your extra pattern. It will be fun to see how you Thelmasize this one! Thanks for your generosity!
ReplyDeleteI, too, adore red. I love the warmth and vibrancy of red, it speaks to my soul. Right now, I'm very drawn to citrus colors: lime, lemon yellow, orange, pink grapefruit--as well as that particular shade of red you find inside a blood orange.
ReplyDeleteI've never made a red and white quilt, but one of these days I will--
Thanks for the giveaway!
Well, Thelma, that binder is just too cute and so you! Where do you find this stuff????????
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the Scarlett Queen pattern/quilt.
Maybe another blog sew-along?? I too love red and white quilts but this would be great in any combination. I like it that Carrie made two to show some options.
Hi Thelma! I would LOVE to win this pattern! I, too, am in love with the red/cream combination and would make it in the same colors.
ReplyDeleteI just want to let you know you have inspired me to start running--and I have NEVER run in my life. Working to do the half marathon in Detroit this October! Wish me luck! Someday this summer I will even work on my Eventide quilt that didn't make it to be finished for the quilt-along...
I would so like to win this pattern, Thelma. It is high time I tried one of Miss Rosie's designs. Red and white quilts are gorgeous, but I prolly would make it in brown and cream. Or deep purple and white. Or yellow and gray which I've been wanting to try. Who knows -- I COULD make all three!
ReplyDeleteOMGosh!! Love that quilt...and I have a stack of reds that I knew I was saving for something!! Thanks so much for the chance to win the pattern to this beauty!
ReplyDeletePaulette
Oooohh...another winner of a pattern from Carrie. I like the clean and simple look that it has. My favorite colors are blues/teals/greens, but that red is really a pretty color for that quilt.
ReplyDelete*sillysally*
I really love the binder and legal pad . . . and I also love love love red !!
ReplyDeleteand this pattern really needs to be in red !! . . . I'm with you !!
Yes, I agree, the red one looks awesome. That's a very interesting looking pattern!
ReplyDeleteI love red and white, too! And I love that pattern! I've made a blue and white quilt that my DS loved and I gave it to him. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love red and white, too! I made my grandmother a beautiful redwork quilt and did all the embroidery by hand. Thanks for sharing and for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say red first with purple a close second. But I do have to admit that I love almost all colors, except orange. But I'm learning to like it and use am trying to use it more often.
ReplyDeleteLove this pattern and the color red! Thanks for the chance to make one of my own.
ReplyDeleteI also include red in almost every quilt, but also love PURPLE. I just might make this quilt (when I get the pattern, of course) in both!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great quilt! I've been wanting to make something in red and white, as I haven't yet. I don't think I have a favorite color quilt; looking at the ones I've made, they're all very different. This could be due to the fact that I've only been quilting 2 years and am still trying out different styles & techniques. I may be close to finding my voice, though...
ReplyDeleteThelma, I love your blog and your taste in color! Deep beautiful reds are a favorite of mine but not always easy to find. I would love to win Miss Rosie's quilt pattern!
ReplyDeleteCarla
handcartquilts@aol.com
My Punk would love that red Poppy binder. Red is her signature color. :)
ReplyDeleteI also have a thing for red, but after working on 3 primarily red quilts over the past year (2 still in progress), I'm about ready for a blue or green one!
ReplyDeleteannesimonot@sasktel.net
A gorgeous quilt! I adore your binder too :) My favorite is RED too!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Donna
I've never been a lover of red but I find as I get older that I'm starting to LOVE the color red! My favorite colors right now are Civil War browns and pinks but I love quilts with black in them, too. I would love to win this pattern. Thanks for sharing your blog with us.
ReplyDeleteLove this pattern, especially in the Jo Morton version!
ReplyDeleteI do love red and white quilts....have started my own since viewing pics of the NY show! I've been collecting reds for a long time!
ReplyDeleteprjule@gmail.com
Having attended the "Infinite Variety" show, I sooo understand why everyone has joined you on the red quilt bandwagon!
ReplyDeleteCarrie Nelson patterns are hard to resist but I don't know what color I'd make it in -- I'm thinking scrappy although maybe this is the one for the black and white quilt on the wish list.....
maybe the next red and white quilt that Carrie designs WILL be named Thelma Sumpin or Sumpin Thelma - every time i see the Color Red, i think of you
ReplyDeleteme? not so much ... i guess i would be the Color Purple (ooo! i think someone should write a book or film a movie with that name) ... or maybe the Color Green ... or the Color Orange ... or the Color Pink ... or the Color Blue
i DO agree with you, though - the red & white one is waaaay cooler than the Jo Morton one
I have to agree with you Thelma, red is best. I would love to add red to every quilt. If fact I have been trying that lately.
ReplyDeleteThanks for another opportunity.
I absolutely love brown...and red...and I like China blue too. But red definitely has the most personality, I think. I definitely want to make a red and white quilt one day. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteThat pattern is intriguing! Love the little detail.
ReplyDeleteI have favorite pairs of quilt colors but not just a single one--I love teal and violet quilts and yellow and blue quilts and have made several of each. Although I love red and white quilts, I've never made one.
I love all the detail in this quilt. I'd like to make it, and I'd do it in red, too!
ReplyDeleteKathy at
tcreekquilts@gmail.com
Oh, I love the pattern. RED is my favorite color. My sister asked if I ever tire of using red in my quilts. Nope! Have a red and white bedroom, guest room and kitchen and they are all so different.
ReplyDeleteGloria
gyates625@bellsouth.net
I don't usually make quilts from patterns but I would love to do this one. My favorite color is orange but I can see this quilt in orange and pink.
ReplyDeleteThelma, I love your new binder and paper!! How fun! I love red quilts and an keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks for the fun!!
ReplyDeleteWow, it is tough to pick a favorite except to say this year I am totally taken with the gorgeous bright new fabric collections, especially the aqua and red combination's. So I'd have to say those are the colors I would use for Scarlet Queen...but it seems a little wicked to use anything BUT red on a pattern called 'Scarlett Queen', don't you think? Hugs...
ReplyDeleteI love the original red version, but I have to say that I'm a blue person. This would look great in scrappy blues!
ReplyDeleteFabulous pattern. And, yes, it looks perfect in red. There's a children's picture book by Canadian author Kathy Stinson called RED IS BEST -- and it's true, red is best! Although blue is pretty nice, too.
ReplyDeleteDebbie R.
I love aqua blue in my quilts, but have always loved the look of red and white quilts -especially after seeing pictures of all of the stunning quilts from the New York show! I would love to make the Scarlett Queen quilt-
ReplyDeleteCarrie's patterns are the best!!! Thanks for the chance to win.
I think the color red is a neutral... you know, goes with everything. A fair share of my quilts also contain the color red.
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for orange :)
ReplyDeleteI love green--but it doesn't always make it into my quilts. You can't beat a good red and white quilt, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the red quilts and anything else red. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
ReplyDeleteMarilyn no blog
Hi Thelma
ReplyDeleteThank you for showing us Scarlett Queen - it's a gorgeous quilt and even more gorgeous in red. I'd love to win a pattern, but will understand if my name can't be included in the draw, given that I live in the Southern Hemisphere.
If she has found a way of making those corners foolproof, I have to have it! Even after all the years I've been quilting, my corners still aren't always as sharp as they should be. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love red...I collect red fabrics and have a bin waiting for Scarlett Queen!! Thanks for the chance to win!!
ReplyDeleteI love red quilts - but the other color way is great too! All of Carrie's patterns are great, and I just love this one.d You are so generous to offer a giveaway! Andrea - ajks100@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI love red in almost everything. One of the quilts still in my head is a red/white. This would be a great pattern for it. Would love to win it.
ReplyDeleteI am seriously loving all the new quilts you have been posting. I am very interested to know how the designer has you put this one together easily because it looks like it could be a real pain! I have lots of blues in my stash and that has been a big favorite in the past, but I think I am growing out of it and gaining some color confidence. Corals and cottage peachy colors paired with beautiful greens have really been calling to me this spring and for someone who is not a fan of orange that seem odd.
ReplyDeleteI love the red version and would definitely make it in red also. A friend of mine told me once that everyone should own a red and white quilt, and I totally agree.
ReplyDeleteGoogle has not been cooperating with me today, so I am replying anonymously, and here's my email: mcdurham at hotmail dot com
OH, I love this new quilt pattern and would love the chance to make it in red. However blue also rivals my love of red. Thanks for the chance to win. Deb
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this pattern and I love red and orange. I do think this would be a great stash reduction project, too. If I don't win you blog post will inspire more sells for Carrie cause this is definitely a pattern I will buy. LOL
ReplyDeleteHi Thelma,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your many chances to win a pattern of Carrie's! You are very generous to your readers! I am partial to blue in my quilts. Am having trouble posting on your blog with Google. I am going to try anonymous this time. I will check back in.
Beverly in WA state
What a great pattern!
ReplyDeleteI tried to leave a comment yesterday, but was unable to.
HI Thelma-- you are so fun/thanks for yet another giveaway! I love the Thelma quilt! I love the red binder and legal pad too! I have been trying to organize my sewing room... but never thought of a binder just for Red quilts!
ReplyDeleteLove the red binder, it's so you! I think they should've called it Thelma Scarlett too...maybe next time :) My boring colors for quilts are usually brown and orange although they don't look boring in the quilts it just sounds boring. I love warm, fall colors which I think is why I have them in everything...although I am definitely changing my ways to red..love it!
ReplyDeleteRed and white has always been a favourite colour combination of mine, especially in quilts. Everything always looks so fresh and crisp in red and white. I also love Carrie's pattern. It looks great in red and white.
ReplyDeleteI really like this patern! Ofc I love anything from Miss Rosie's Quilt Co! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteRed, red, RED!! I, too, love red! I WOULD make the quilt in red if I were lucky enough to win. If not, I'll probably hafta buy it and make it in red! LOL Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI can see this quilt done up in many different fabrics but for my own quilt it would definitely be RED! I LOVE this pattern!!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win the pattern and would have a hard time deciding between making it in red and white or blue and white. I think it would look great in either.
ReplyDeleteI can just see you having this quilt done next week!! Definitely suits you perfectly. I change my colour preferences all the time!!
ReplyDeleteI love using red and white in my quilting but my favourite colour is green!
ReplyDeleteI'm a red all the way kinda girl, but I seem to bring home more blue than anything else.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely quilt, especially the red version. I would love to make one for myself. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the red and white quilt, and with a red and white swap I am in, the pattern would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that red quilt! I've been looking for the perfect quilt to make with the red fat quarters I've been collecting, and I think you've definitely found it for me! I'd love to win this pattern, but I'll have my eye out for it at my LQS as well! Thanks for all the eye candy!
ReplyDeleteRed and white always looks so fresh. I would have to add some pink in there though.
ReplyDeleteHappy days.
