Another Red Letter Day ?!?!?

I'm still needing a few more Christmas quilt finishes if I'm going to meet my goal of giving Christmas quilts to family and friends this year.  Here's my 5th Christmas quilt finish for 2018.

This is Lifetime Quilt Number 234
The pattern is Red Letter Day by Camille Roskelley for Thimble Blossoms.
The fabric is Overnight Delivery by Sweetwater for Moda
It finished at 68" x 68"
It has approximately 657 pieces.

This pattern packs a lot of punch for such a small time commitment.  I pieced this top in 4 afternoons.  I thought it was a good choice for the Overnight Delivery fabric, the big block pieces allow the festive prints to really shine.

This is the third time I've used this pattern.

I made this fall Red Letter Day version for my brother and his wife.

And this summer version that I made 4 years ago has been on my bed every August since.

Two more Christmas finishes would be nice, but all the Halloween projects on social media are calling my name, maybe I can squeeze in one more Christmas finish before October.

Harmony II

When I was deciding the best use of my Harmony bundle I narrowed it down to two patterns.   The first pattern was Halloween Blooms, see my last blog post for pics of that quilt.

The second pattern was Tansy by Corey Yoder for Coriander Quilts.

It took some time cutting the fabric using the scraps I had leftover from Halloween Blooms.

But I had just enough.

This is Lifetime Quilt Number 226
The pattern is Tansy by Corey Yoder for Coriander Quilts
The fabric is Harmony by Sweetwater for Moda
It finished at 61" x 61"
It has approximately 552 pieces.

I love both quilts and am so happy I was able to piece two great quilts using that one bundle of fabric.   I loved the colors and feeling of Harmony and am sad I've used it up.   I'm gong to have to work hard to find a project that I enjoy as much as these last two.

Harmony Blooms

It was love at first sight for me with  Sweetwater's Harmony fabric.

The hard part was deciding what to make with the fabric.  I thought about it for a couple of weeks before deciding on Fig Tree's Halloween Blooms pattern.  I actually pieced this pattern using Halloween colors the fall of 2016.  It's not very often I piece the same pattern twice, (so many patterns, so little time)  but for some reason I thought this was a good fit, and it's not like I'll have both quilts out at the same time.

Unlike my original Halloween Blooms quilt, I did not go with a scrappy background and kept the center squares the same color as the outer ones.

I thought this combo resulted in a cleaner look, and I like it.  Like most of the US, it's been dreary, rainy, and cold here, we're past ready for spring, but working with this fabric made it seem like spring in my sewing room.  I loved piecing the blooms so much I added an extra block to each row.

This is Lifetime Quilt Number 225
I've named it Harmony Blooms
The fabric is Harmony by Sweetwater for Moda
The pattern is Halloween Blooms by Fig Tree
It finished at 71" x 71"
It has approximately 1,609 pieces.

And here's a little reminder of Blooms Number 1.

I love this Harmony fabric so much I"m going to use my leftovers to make another quilt top.  I'm usually ready to move on to different fabric once I finish one project, but I love this fabric so much and it makes me so happy I'm just going to continue to sew with it.  That's my goal to work with this fabric until spring shows up on my doorstep.

Christmas in July

Earlier this year I was given the opportunity to play with Sweetwater's Hometown Christmas fabric for a Christmas in July theme for Moda.

This picture was actually taken in July, so it was literally  Christmas in July for one morning at my house.

I put together two blocks, a background center block and a print center block.

This is the background center block, or Block 1.  The amazing quilting is by Connie Lancaster, the owner of Quilts Plus in Indianapolis, Indiana.

This is the print center block, or Bock 2.

The pattern is a breeze, I went with 3 inch fabric squares and 3 inch half square triangles, but really you can go with any size that you like.  You can also piece as many blocks as you like, no rules here.

The family of fabric has some great prints but the plaids were my favorite.

And here's my finished quilt.

This is Lifetime Quilt Number 197
I 've named it Christmas in July
It finished at 88' x 88"
The fabric is Hometown Christmas by Sweetwater for Moda.
It has approximately 1,573 pieces.

Carrie Nelson and the nice folks at Moda have written a pattern for this quilt and it's available for free on the Moda Cutting Table blog.   I think there may also be a giveaway, so check it out today. click here

Thanks Moda for the opportunity to create a fun project and bigger thanks to Carrie Nelson who helped wth the design and all the pattern work.
