One of my 2017 Year of Thelma Quilt goals is to end the year with no WIPs. One WIP was Zipper, which I finished earlier this year, another is this Ombre Star project which I started February 2016.
I made these 4 blocks, liked them, but didn't know what to do with them, so I put them in a project box. I recently decided to do something with these blocks so I could just consider this project done. And I wasn't even sure what to do, so I just pieced more blocks.
And when I got to nine blocks I decided that was enough.
Then I decided to set the blocks using the gray ombre fabric. It's hard to tell from the photo but the center is dark gray and gets lighter as it proceeds to the outer borders.
This is Lifetime Quilt Number 205
I've named it Ombre Star
It finished at 50" x 50"
The blocks are paper pieced and the pattern is from issue 16 of Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine.
The fabric is V and Co's Ombre fabric by Moda
It has approximately 976 pieces.
For the rest of this year, if I finish each project I start, I will end the year with no WIPs, fingers crossed.

oooo!!! your stars are GLOWING ... this one positively radiates, Thelma!!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning! I should comment more often because yours is my very favorite blog. I love your writing style and your quilts never fail to just knock my socks off!!! It makes my day whenever I see a post from you. Thelma, are you sure about the number of pieces in this quilt? I just did a quick count and I got well over 900. Don't want your yearly total to be too far off!!!
ReplyDeleteWell I did say approximately, lol! No your'e right and great catch, thanks, I'm not sure where I went wrong with the math, but there are 976 pieces, I updated the my blog post. And thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving such a sweet comment. Blogs are almost out of style now, but since this is how I keep my quilt history I don't think I can stop. I'm happy someone still stops by to read my posts.
DeleteGee, Thelma, could I send you a couple of my UFO's, so you could have a real challenge? I envy the idea of not having any WIP at the end of the year....maybe in a 100 years!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a beautiful quilt! And no WIPS at the end of the year? Now that's a goal (but not one I'll will retch ever;-)
ReplyDeleteLove the stars, they are like giant dahlias. Have set a goal of 1 UFO a month. So far, six down. Many more to go, am inspired every time I see one of your finishes.
ReplyDeleteYou and your projects are amazing! Thank you for sharing with us!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely. Does "no UFOs" mean all of the tops are finished and quilted or just the tops are finished? I keep a leader/ender project going but otherwise I just feel better if I finish each project. This year I've stopped and started on a couple of things but I was able to wrap up two last weekend and I have high hopes for next weekend. Pretty new fabric sure is tempting!
ReplyDeleteThose are really lovely blocks and a great use of ombré fabric!
ReplyDeleteI just love your Stars and Stripes quilt and this is a beauty as well.
