1 Year Down, ?? To Go . . . . .

Today is the one year anniversary of my blog!!

It's hard for me to believe, it seems like I just started. It has been and continues to be a learning experience, but it has been well worth the time. I feel like I have received much more from you than I have given in return.

A year ago, I wasn't into blogs....at all. But I had a friend who kept talking about all the great quilt things happening out in blogland. She was all the time, "did you see that blog or this blog". My response was always the same, "I don't have time to read blogs about quilting, I'm too busy actually quilting". Then one day she sent me a link to Sister's Choice blog, written by Nicole. She sent it to me because Nicole had dogs similar to a dog we once owned. All it took was one post about Ozzie and Sophie and I was hooked. Nicole is a wonderful writer, I immediately felt like, and still do, that each post is just a short chapter in a very interesting book. The kind you start reading and can't put down. Well once I got hooked on Nicole's blog it was no time until I was reading the blogs on her favorites list, then the favorites list of those favorites and so on. Once I was hooked on blogs, I decided I wanted to be part of the wonderful quilt blogging community. So 164 posts and 2,130 comments later, here we are!!

So for the rest of the week I'm going to share a few of my favorite moments from the last year and have a few giveaways.

Tommorrow, I'll answer a question I get frequently, "What's up with the "Cupcakes n Daisies" name?"

But for today, what's an anniversary without a giveaway?

First I'm giving away two charm packs from two families of fabrics that I love but don't seem to get much love out there,

Saltbox Harvest by Deb Strain for Moda

and Stars and Coxscombs by Terry Clothier Thompson for Moda.

My blog has 46 Followers. When I first started, I had to email one of my Followers and ask her what was a Follower! I threw all 46 names in a basket and drew one......

Lee, you're the Follower winner. Lee's blog is Lala's Lovelys.
Let me know if you want the Saltbox Harvest or Stars and Coxscombs packs along with your address and they will be on their way North to you. Thanks to you and all my followers.

Today's giveaway is your choice of whatever charm packs Lee doesn't select or

a layer cake of Spirit by Lila Tueller for Moda.

To be eligible, please leave a comment letting me know what size quilt is your favorite or the size you make the most. That's it, you have until 5:00 am CST, 8/25, to leave a comment. The winner will be announced on 8/25.

Thanks for stopping by and come back, more memories and giveaways to come.

  2. Hi there! Difficult to answer about fav size, I tend to end up with big ones, Queensize thats why I started do Schnibble... so far I haven't done them bigger... :) But mostly I enjoy a pattern or a block and that sort of makes out the size in the end.

  3. Congratulations on a blog well written, one I read regularly! I'd be tickled to win any of the goodies you are giving away. Most of the quilts I make are "generous nap size" for adults, the size that one drapes over the back of the couch to pull down when a nap is in order. I also make pretty many baby quilts.

  4. Thelma, Congratulations on 1 year of blogging!! I am so glad that you took the plunge and that I found you as well. I enjoy reading your blog and watching your progress on your quilts and musings. I am looking forward to many more years of reading!! I would have to say the most commonly made size in my repertoire is a large lap or twin size. The bigger for snuggling on the couch, the better.

  5. Congratulations on 1 year! I really enjoy reading your blog. I've been attracted to twin sized quilts or lap quilts - I've finished mostly table runners though! :)

  6. Congrats on your first year in blogland!! I'm happy that you took the plunge! Love hearing about your quilts and the process of creation.

I typically make my quilts between 70 - 80" which gives us a 'full coverage' when we drape it on ourselves.

  7. Happy first birthday! I generally make lap quilts or wall hanging size because I don't think I'd have the patience to complete a large quilt! So very envious of all those who make gorgeous bed quilts though...

  8. My favorite size quilt is the one I am working on. I just love your blog. So much fun to read. Congrats on your 1 year anniversary!

  9. Happy Anniversary! I love wandering around in blogland, you never know what you will find. I generally make lapsize quilts. I like to see the finished quilt so I can't make it too big!

  10. Hiya!! Congrats on your 1 year anniversary!! I also follow your blog, but not through blogger, you may be very surprised to know that you have 212 followers through Google Reader!! That means between Blogger and Google reader you have 258 people watching you blog (no pressure). Plus there are all sorts of other free readers out there, so you may have even more than that!!

I always enjoy your posts and look forward to years of posting from you! :)

    Cheers!

  11. Hi Thelma!
It's a bit strange to introduce me when you're having a giveaway - therefore, please don't count me in...I really only wanted to congratulate on your 1st "blog-o-versary". May there meny more to come.
I really enjoy your posts...your quilty projects are always fun to look at! I especially love your ongoing Fig Tree Basket + lattice border adventure...!
Thanks so much for sharing your stories.

  12. Oh and this isn't a secodn entry but I jsut realized I didn't answer your question!! I generally make lap size quilts, usually 55x80 or so. It seems to be a very comfortable size for us.

    Cheers!

  13. Thelma, I am so glad you decided to start blogging. I love to read your blog. Your creativity amazes me. I usually make queen size quilts so they will be used. It ususally stays warm here so much you don't need throws a lot. But I am going to be a grandma for the first time and have started making little girl baby quilts as it is going to be a little girl. Thank you for the opportunity to win.

  14. I got back from vacation just in time for the giveaway! Congratulations on one year of blogging. I get so much inspiration from your blog!! I think that my favorite size quilt to make is a queen size because then I can change out the beds during the year. Thanks for the opportunity to win.

  15. Congratulations on a year of blogging. My favorite size quilt to make is probably lap sized, and then after that queen sized.. Lap sized is much easier to handle though.

  16. Happy Anniversary Thelma. I started reading you when you and Nicole and someone else did the red snowball quilts together. Now I come to your blog and read all your favorites.

My favorite size quilt to make is a queen. If I don't want to spend all that time, my next favorite is a "generous lap" which is usally about 50-ish inches by about 60-ish inches.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Happy Blogiversary!!!! I would like to make more queen size quilts for my bed but I usually end up making lots of lap size quilts. The lap sizes or twin sizes come in handy in the winter in my drafty old house. There are piles of them on the couch for snuggling.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Happy Anniversary! This is difficult to answer. Right now, I am in to Schnibbles. They're fast, cute and can be used in so many places. However, I usually make quilts that are between full and queen size or throw size or.... Well, this is a toughie!

  19. Happy one year Blogiversary Thelma!! It's funny that you found Nicole's blog through her dogs because as you know, I found yours when you posted that picture of Simon. It's funny how pets and quilters seem to go together :-).

Thanks for the great giveaway! To answer your question, I don't have a favorite size quilt to make. Sometimes I like small, sometimes large. Just depends on the pattern and the fabrics that I'm working with. Or if I get sick of making blocks LOL.

  20. Happy Birthday!

Most of the quilt that I make are in the 60x72 range. It's a great size for a dorm quilt, a sofa quilt, a quilt for folding at the bottom of the bed, and an all-around snuggle quilt.

    Here's to the next year!

  21. Congratulations!! I recently discovered your blog and now it is the first thing I look at every morning. I love the inspiration. Right now it seems all I am making are baby quilts! And as fast as I make them, they go out the door. I'm trying to get some "sofa-size" quilts made for Christmas, and maybe now that the kids are back in school I can get them done! Thanks again for your blog...it is a highlight of my day.

  22. Hey Thelma! Congrats on your one year anniversary:). It has been fun following you LOL! I love charm packs and the quilt size I seem to make most often is under 40 x 40. I love wallhangings and small quilts.

  23. Happy Anniversary!!!!! It is amazing how fast a year goes by.

My most made quilt size??? Full-queen.... I just make them cause I love them, not to fit anything LOL

    Hugs!

  24. Congratulations on your 1st year in blogland. I love reading blogs, but haven't tried my hand at starting one of my own. I usually make lap size quilts - easier to quilt on my home machine. Thanks for the chance at the give-away.

  25. Happy One Year! I just started blogging recently and am amazed at the wonderful things everyone (including you) is doing! Love your lattice border, and likely will try that myself! I normally make (or start) larger, bed sized quilts (queen or larger--they just seem to grow), but I rarely finish anything that size. I look forward to hearing about your blog name--everytime I see it, I get hungry.... And, where do you get those M&M's (which store)?

  26. Great job on your fist year of blogging. I wish I had more time to blog, but life happens. Keep up the great work.

  27. Happy Anniversary !! . . . today is also my granddaughter's 5th birthday and my son's 44th birthday . . . so a very special day !!

I read a lot of quilting blogs . . . but the 2 I read every single day are yours and Nicole's . . . they are both so inspiring and always something good going on !!

the size I usually make is either a lap size or a twin . . . because I can always drape these across a larger bed . . . occasionally I do make a queen or king . . . but it has to be for a very special reason . . .

    ReplyDelete
  28. Happy Anniversary! May you have many more years and posts to come. Now to your question, I like making lapsize quilts the most but I always seem to end up making queen/king size quilts.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi! Just found you through Nicole's blog. Happy anniversary to you. I seem to make lap size quilts the most. They are easy to maneuver thru my machine and are a good size for cuddling up with.

  30. Woo hoo! Congratulations on your blogiversary! I will have a cupcake to celebrate! It has been a wonderful year getting to know you. Can't wait for our actual meeting in just a few weeks!
I seem to end up making humongous quilts that would serve as a car cover or circus tent. I need to scale back, the quilting is costing me a fortune.

  31. Happy Anniversary - it's been fun getting to know you and your quilting. I wish you many more years of blogging. I've been blogging a long time and would miss it dearly if I stopped.

I make all sizes of quilts because I just enjoy sewing & quilting.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Great job, going for one year already! I love reading your blog :) My favorite size of quilt is a twin, it's functional to fit on a bed and long enough to cover your whole body :) I seem to make a lot of my quilts this size.

  33. Hi Thelma! I got hooked on blogs nearly the same way you did! Except I found Nicole through Lisa's blog! They are wonderful people and through them I found you! Happy blogiversary! I'm so glad I get to read chapters of your interesting book! I mainly finish schnibbles but I would like to finish one of my bed sized quilts- I have quilters adhd and get distracted easily!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Congratulations on your first year! I'll get there someday. In the meantime, I sure enjoy your blog! To answer your question, I ususally make lap sized quilts, although I've made a few twins. I've yet to tackle a queen, but I need to do it for my own bed!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Congrats! I just found your blog a few months ago, I will have to start following it! I'm seriously going to start one of my own, due to the inspiration I find your blog and others!
I like lapsize the best. I like to drag them from room to room, but, I am on the hunt for a great kingsize pattern or idea, for my bed!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Happy Anniversary! Well done, I love your blog. The size quilt that I make most often in lap size. I'm great at making them but then take ages to do the binding - Have 4 waiting to be bound at the moment!

  37. Happy Anniversary. I make mostly lap sized quilts since they are usually for the quilt shop to display and that size works best. I need a new bed quilt though so am looking at queen patterns/ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Happy Blogiversary! It sure seems like I've been reading your blog for more than 1 year! I make mostly mini quilts, but after that, my favorite quilts are single bed size that I can quilt myself on my sewing machine.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary! I've been following you for a while now and I have to agree about the posts being like chapters in an interesting book. I don't know that I have a favorite size. I suppose I've made quite a few lap-sized ones but I have a 12" square, 24"x29" and a king-sized quilt going on right now. I also just finished one that was 48" square. I guess it usually comes down to the recipient.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Happy Anniversary - thanks for a year of inspiring posts and quilts. I like large lap quilts - 60X72 - in that range. Keep up the good work - the cupcake looks yummy! Piece.....

  41. are you serious? thanks so much Thelma you have certainly made my day! I really do love reading your blog and getting so much inspiration from your quiting. I have made all sizes of quilts, well not king. favourite would have to be single as I can manage quilting that on my machine easier! time to email you my address!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Happy blogiversary! My favorite size varies, but it is generally small - wall, or baby quilts are quicker to get to the finish. I have most fun and most challenge with really small ones - like journal size or a little bigger - the ones I design myself and let the size be determined by the design.

  43. My favorite size is lap or smaller. Congrats on your blogiversary.

  45. Happy blogiversary Thelma! I make either twin size quilts, or great big ones~ for our queen bed. I need to make some smaller ones for napping on the couch one of these years! LOL :-)

  46. My favorite is a twin size or tall lap size. We always have quilts floating around the family room, everyone likes to snuggle down there. My next favorite is a mini size. I like making minis. Happy blogaversary!! i love your blog.

  47. I'm usually making ones that are 40 60ish.

  48. I can't not wish you Happy Anniversary! But please don't enter my name. I read whenever you post - I will let one of your other lucky readers have the chance to win.

  49. Congrats on celebrating Year One of blogging!!! I too read and enjoy Nicole's blog. She has such exquisite taste in fabric. I drool over photos of her quilts. I love Salt Box Harvest, too. I bought two charm packs to make a Schnibble quilt. I'm trying to decide which one to make. I'm enjoying your blog. Looking forward to getting to know you better! Take care!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Congrats on your first year! A friend told me about your blog, the name got my attention because daisies are my favorite flower. I like to make baby quilts because they are small enough that I will actually finish them!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Duh! I forgot to mention which size quilt I like the most. I seem to make lots of lap size quilts. Lately, I've gravitated towards wall-hanging size tops. I love making Schnibbles. They allow me to try a new fabric line without making a huge investment of time or fabric. Looking forward to learning about your blog name.

  52. Happy anniversary, Thelma! I have enjoyed reading your blog so much, and always look forward to updates! I started reading your blog back during the red and white snowball challenge, when we swapped lights. You are a fabulous quilter, so organized, productive and with such a good eye. Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing! As for favourite size of quilt, I guess I tend to gravitate to sizes between 60 - 80 inches. Any bigger is hard to quilt on my home machine.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Gongrats on your anniversary. Lately I have been making quilts for new little ones in my family and quilts for my 2 grandsons so I guess for now that's my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Thelma, I'm another one who started reading you when you did the snowball quilt and put you on my google reader so I don't miss a post. Congratulations on your blogaversary! I usually do lap size quilts.

  55. I am hoping to start blogging...the technology is what is holding me back...or rather my lack of knowledge on how to use the technology. I so enjoy your blog and would love to win any FABRIC but the cake layers interest me the most. Queens are the usual size I make.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Happy Anniversary!!! I absolutely love your blog and the name! I'm a daisy gal myself. It has always been my favorite flower -- especially the purple ones!

As for my favorite size quilt to make....well, historically, I've always made bedsize quilts....queen or king size -- why play small? But lately, I've been making baby quilts and playing with Schnibbles patterns.

And my favorite colors to work with (just in case you wanted to know) are patriotic colors and anything purple!

  57. Thelma, congratulations on your first blog anniversary!!! I know you will have many more! I love your blog and look forward to your fun and informative posts. You know I've been following you .... you were one of the first blogs I discovered ;-) Keep on blogging!

  58. Happy Anniversary on your blog! I have enjoyed your blog the past year ... you are so inspiring! I can't remember how I came across your blog but with a name like "Cupcakes & Daisies" who could reist! I love both. I just noticed on your sidebar The Cupboard in Attalla! I wish I could send you one of their cupcakes and it survive... wish I had one right now! Now back to quilts ... I normally make a lap quilt they are so much easier to handle!
    Keep on inspiring me!

I fixed that little problem!! :-} Happy One Year! Size of quilt...if it's left up to my Larry, as big as possible! Me? I think a manageable completion size is 80-some inches for the length.

  61. Cheers to a colorful year of blogging filled with talent, humor, stats (ha!), productivity, creativity, inspiration, determination (can you say, "Ala Mode"?), and -- best of all -- sharing it with all of us!

I've finished about a dozen quilts in the last 3 years. Two have been 48-in. squares and the others have been throw size, usually about 60 by 80 in. One of these days, I just might have to break out my rut.

  62. Happy Blogday to you, Happy Blogday to you, Happy Blogday, Dear Thelma, Happy Blogday to you!!

  63. My favorite quilt size is 90x90, it just fits my bed. As you have noticed, even when I try to make a smaller quilt I seem to wind up with it getting bigger. I am very glad you decided to enter the blogging world. I follow you on Bloglines and enjoy each of your posts.
