It's a Wrap . . . .

Thank you so much for helping me celebrate the first year of my blog.

I've enjoyed all the comments and truly appreciate you sharing your thoughts on my questions.

I'm so relieved to know the vast majority of you don't expect a response to all your comments. If there is a question, I'll always respond to those comments, and when I notice someone new stopping by, I'll make sure I give them a Cupcakes n Daisies quilt blog welcome. A response just like the warm and inviting response I received when I left my first comment. And I'm still going to try to respond to all the other comments, because I do enjoy our little "chats", and getting to know you better.

Today's post was going to be a little year in review, my biggest challenge, my favorite quilt, and surprises, good and bad, along the way. But as I was working on putting it all together, I realized it was too hard to pick a favorite anything. It's been a wonderful first year, and having all my challenges and triumphs, with your support and point of views added in, has been a priceless experience. My blog is my favorite, the whole thing!

I'm pleased to know that I add a little something to your day and thrilled that you enjoy visiting with me as much as I enjoy visiting with you.

So lets wrap this week up with a pretty pink bow!!!!

And my final blog anniversary giveaway. How about a $50 gift certificate from the on-line quilt shop of your choice. If they will let me buy you a gift certificate, it's yours.

Giveaway is now closed, thanks for stopping by!

The winner from yesterday's post is number 25, The Cantuck Quilter. Congratulations!! Visit the Green Quilt Fairy and pick your prize, any jelly roll or layer cake that suits you. Send me your choice along with your address and it will be on the way to you!!

And since I received so many wonderful comments, I've decided to pick another winner, number 42, Gretchen, at Stella Bella Quilts, you're a winner too! Same as above, pick your pleasure and send me the details.

Thanks for stopping by!!

  1. I think the best thing that has happened in the last 12 months would be two fold. My youngest son graduating from HS (we home school) and being accepted at a local college, and moving into our new(er) home. Thanks so much for entering me Thelma !

  3. My favorite thing is selling my house. In this tough market, I sold it in less than 3 weeks for 94% of what we asked for it. It's the first stage in a two stage move towards retirement! Happy Anniversary.

  4. My favorite thing was dragging my sewing machine out of the closet, getting it serviced and returning to the world of sewing for pleasure. Life had happened over the years and I had drifted away from sewing. I'll never know exactly why because I had always loved watching fabric become something beautiful and useful.

Happy Blogiversary! May your next year be fabulous!

  5. My favorite thing was front row tickets to Tim McGraw last summer. I honestly don't think anything will surpass that experience for a while!!

    Happy Blog Birthday!

  6. My favorite thing has been the time I was able to spend with my two nieces and one nephew this summer (nieces are 9 and 13, nephew is 11 yrs. old). They spent 5 glorious days at my house and I taught all three of them how to make a quilt. We all had a great time picking out fabric scraps to use and taking turns at the sewing machine. By the end of the week, they each had a lap quilt of their very own and a new found skill of how to use a sewing machine. What a great summer vacation!

  9. Hands down the best thing that happened to me this year was picking up quilting again after a 15 year hiatus. When I look back, I'm amazed and thrilled with what I have accomplished this year, not to mention all the amazing bloggy friends I have met, who keep me motivated and excited to try new things. Congratulations on your milestone, Thelma - I look forward to reading more from you!

  10. Congratulations on your blog anniversary. We've had many celebrations this year-new baby, a wedding, anniversaries, birthdays. My favorite is that my son and his wife reconciled (they have 2 children, ages 2 & 4).

  11. I think my favorite thing this year was surprising my kids with a puppy. They've been begging me forever and I finally gave in. Funny thing, I think I love the puppy more than the kids do.

    Thanks for the great giveaways!

  12. Hands down, my favorite of the past year has been my grandson who is turning 2 next week! He is such pure joy. Quilting projects for him and discovering the world once again through his eyes is the absolute best.

  13. My favorite thing this year has been Penny. She's still very puppy, but seems to be bonding with me and we're having a ton of fun, which is sorely needed with all the sickness and sadness around me. Congrats on your anniversary! It's been delightful getting to know you!

  14. Congrats again! Favorite thing in the last 12 months...hard to say...but basically just that we have had health and safety as a family...no other problems seem too tough to handle if you have your health! I'm most grateful for my family!

  15. My favorite thing was having my son, a captain in the Marine Corps, return safely from his deployment in Afghanistan. We all then met at my other son's in northern California for a wonderful family vacation. Since Robert had earned quite a bit of vacation, he went on to Spain to visit a friend. Afghanistan must not have been dangerous enough - he went running with the bulls in Pamplona! We are thankful to now have everyone safely returned from their travels.

  16. The best thing that happened in my life in the past 12 months was my 23 year old son coming home from Afghanistan in January. He didn't make it out uninjured (2 purple hearts) but he did come home in one piece. A VERY close second was him getting transferred to a base here in Texas a couple months later.

We are so very grateful to have him home again and we pray for his safety during his next deployment which begins in December.

  17. Like your blog, it's hard to pick favorites. One special time was having my college age daughter spend a whole month with us as she studied for tests. Another is when I started quilting again after many years (I love it still!) And each day in its own way too (if I could remember them all) they would likely be special (though there'd probably be a few doozies that are better left forgotten too! Hope you have another great blogging year!!

  18. My favorite thing this past 12 months has been making new friends and reconnecting with old ones, all thanks to this thing we call the Internet :-).

  20. It's truly been a blessed year, so it's hard to pick just one. We've built our dream home and finally moved in, adopted two new puppies from the shelter, traveled this summer..it's all been great. But probably the most rewarding to me was being able to share my very best friends journey through breast cancer. That she loves me enough to let me be with her every step of the way has been amazing to me. We have hung on to each other through it all. I'm so thankful for her wonderful doctors, nurses and care-givers, and so thankful medicine has come so very far in that breast cancer is no longer an automatic death sentence. Radiation starts next week, so we see the light at the end of the tunnel..and that will be my absolute favorite part of the year...when it's over! Thanks again for your blog...truly brightens my day.

  21. One more happy anniversary wish for you! My favorite thing has been watching my daughter emerge from a very challenging period into bliss & real happiness.

  22. The past year has been a challenging one and my favorite thing about it is sitting down at night with my husband and hanging out with our pets. Also those occasions when I get to spend time with the rest of my family. I appreciate them so much more at times like these.

  24. Happy Happy Thelma!! this year has been a great year. We have traveled some, my son graduated from HS, loved watching my girls dance, had visitors from the east and we are all healthy. Let's hope we have many more of these great years.

  25. My nine year old granddaughter wanted to "sew". I cut fabric and she made a quilt which turned out very well. She is so proud of that quilt. It helped me too, as I was mourning the death of my Mother who passed away on her 80th birthday in April. I plan on giving Riley a sewing machine for Christmas and hope she will continue to make quilts through her lifetime.

  26. Happy Blogiversary! The greatest thing that has happened in my life this year is seeing my husband regain his health. Your blog has inspired me to think outside the box when making quilts. Your quilts are amazing!

  28. I always enjoy reading your blog; you have a great style.

My favorite thing from the past year has been seeing my daughter get off to a great start in high school. She started a new school last fall, in 9th grade, and it was joy from the first day. She has made friends, hit it off well with teachers, and had great experiences, including a small part in the school play. As a parent, it is very gratifying to see her growing up so well.

  30. My favorite thing for this last year has been this entire summer. It happened that my husband was off the entire time, but it was good because we spent so much quality time with the kids.

Thank you again for your blog I enjoy reading it.

  31. My favorite thing in the past 12 months? That is so hard! This might sound kind of odd but… I think it’d be that we signed my son up for Tae Kwon Do, and he has grown so much from it, it makes me want to cry when I think about the positive changes I see in my 9 year old son, it’s incredible. My kids bring me the most joy, following that would be the fun summer we have had, visiting friends and family, we are so blessed.

  32. The best thing that has happened in the last year has been the positive changes in the life of my troubled son. It's a work in progress, but the steady progress forward has been heartwarming.

  33. My favorite thing that happened this year has to be the birth of my second baby boy. What joy he has brought into our home. It has been so much fun to watch my older son take on the big brother role. Two is so much more work then one...but so worth it!

  34. My favorite thing this year was the birth of my first grandson! He is the light of my life. The rest of the year has been pretty bad....but Ayden loves his Nana and his Nana loves him!!!!

Congratulations on the 1 year anniversary!!!!

  35. Happy first year - a job well done. My favorite thing this year is that my friend loaned me her quilting frame and machine so I can try them out. Now to find time to practice!

  37. Thelma, I think the best thing would have to be finding out that I was going to be a grandmother. My daughter-in-law is a kidney transplant patient and I thought I wouldn't get to have grandchildren for this reason. But low and behold the doctors rearranged her medicines and gave her the go ahead. So in December we will welcome baby Zoe into our family. I am busy making little girl baby quilts. Thank you for the opportunity to win but most of all thank you for your blog.

  38. The favortie thing from the past 12 months for me was hard to pick. I have a new grandson, that's big, and I celebrated my 35th anniversary so for me those are my favorites.

  39. What a great wrap up! It's been a pleasure getting to know you this year and I welcome the start of a new year of reading your blog!

My favorite thing this year has been having my daughter live with me after she graduated college. Her fiancee still had a year in college and so she came home while he wrapped things up. She just left last week and it's been hard but I try to focus on the year she spent with me while getting ready for the rest of her life.

  40. My Favourite Thing was our second Honeymoon in wonderful Tasmania, the place where we had our first Honeymoon. Enjoying some wonderful precious time with my husband. Discovering some wonderful Quilt shops that did not exist back then Like the Quilted Crow girls in Hobart :-)

  41. Thelma, it's been wonderful to get to know you over this past year, too. I think I've 2 favorite things, and one to come. In June, we got together with family from Canada, California, Missouri, Washington, Colorado, Texas, North Carolina and Nebraska to celebrate the folks 50th Wedding Anniversary, and it was Wonderful! Parties, BBQ and a family photo shoot that lasted 3 hours in a city park setting, it was great! Then in July, Mom found she had breast cancer, but this week after surgery, she has been found cancer free, Praise God! Lastly, our daughter is getting married after Thanksgiving, and I'm blessed by it all. Thanks for the week long celebration, you really know how to have fun!! :-}pokey

  44. My favorite thing the last twelve months, spending 9 days at the Circle Z ranch in Patagonia Arizona last April for my 60th birthday!!! It was the very first 'real' vacation that my hubby and I have ever been on in 42 years of marriage. Everything about it was absolutely perfect. Like stepping back in time 50 years and leaving the 'electronic age' back at the gate.

  45. Not sure what I love more, the eating part or the gorgeous sewing that you do.....love the newest Fig Tree with Miss Rosie, that is now on my "to do" list and is right at the top...hope you spend the weekend happily eating cupcakes and let us know all about it.....congrats....Susan

  46. I am one who does not expect anything, nor do I ask for much but when I was surprised with a windfall of 'found money' and bought a new swish sewing machine, well, I guess that was the best thing for me in the last year!!

  47. I suppose I should say that my son graduating with his PhD is my favorite thing, and I am very proud of him for that accomplishment. But in all honesty my favorite thing has to be his voice on the other end of the line when a shooting happened at the building where he worked on campus before his graduation. In that moment, nothing else mattered!

  48. Without question the best thing that has happened to me in the past 12 months is hubby coming home from deployment! :-) Have a happy day Thelma!

  49. The best thing that happened to me this past year was after trying for a baby, I finally found out I'm pregnant! We're having a baby girl in November and we're really excited! I'm now very busy trying to finish as many pink quilts as possible to wrap up our little bundle of joy.
