Towards the end of last year, Nicole of Sister's Choice Quilts and Allyson of Fat Cat Quilts hosted a sew along, The Red and Cream Snowball Sew Along. The pattern is Leftovers Again? by Evelyn Sloppy from her 40 Fabulous Quick-Cut Quilts book. The sew along was fun and some of us even swapped creams. The piecing was a breeze and my quilt went together easily.
I re-named my quilt "He Knows When You Are Sleeping" because I added a few Santas in the mix.
I took the flimsy to the quilter and pretty much put the whole thing out of mind, since I didn't need the quilt anytime soon.
Well I just picked the quilt up from Dawn at The Sewing Basket and am so happy to have it home on my red couch.
The back is cream Moda flannel, very warm and cozy feeling.
Dawn used a pattern that had the same look and feel as the Santas beards in the border fabric.
I loved making this quilt, am pleased with how it all came together, and am giving it away.
I'm wanting to make a quilt for every member of my family, my Dad loves Santas and all Christmas decorations in general, so once I got this quilt home, I realized it should really belong to my Dad. I'm a little sad to see it go, which is a first for me, I've never had any trouble giving my quilts away, but I'm sure once I see him sound asleep in his recliner, under this quilt, I'll feel pretty good about the whole thing.
Cooper thinks it's the right thing to do too......
or at least I think that's what that goofy face means......
Yay, Thelma! It looks grand! I am sitting wrapped up in my red and white snowball (Red Hots) right now! That quiltalong was a lot of fun - I think that's where I met you! Why don't you and Nicole organize another one?
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful quilt! I definitely think that Cooper's goofy face means exactly that! Definitely the right thing to do. I just love the Santa fabric, do you know where you got it from?
ReplyDeleteIt's fabulous, I'm sure your Dad will love it.
ReplyDeleteThelma it is absolutely FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!! Your dad is going to love, love, love it! Look at that cute Cooper!
ReplyDeleteI love that quilt! I remember how much I loved it when you gals were making them too! So generous of you to give it to your dad!!! Cooper looks very handsome in that photo!
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the patterns on my to do list from that book, along with many, many others lol. It's a great book.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is beautiful and I'm sure your dad will love it!
What a great quilt! Love the title you gave it and how you hid the little Santa blocks! It's a wonderful gift..I just know it will be his favorite gift! I miss every quilt I ever gave away :)
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is one of my favorites that you have made . . . but of course I love Santas !!
ReplyDeleteI just recently have found a way to not miss the quilts I give away . . . there is a gal in one of my quilting classes that makes the most adorable pincushions . . . in 4 sizes . . . you can even stack them . . .
she is making pincushions with leftovers from each of my quilts . . . a few a month for now . . . she just delivered 4 to me the other day . . .
I'm going to put them in a little curio cabinet in my sewing room . . .
I remember that quilt and LOVE it! What a special gift for your dad.
ReplyDeleteI still need to have mine quilted. It will get done this year for sure. I have to say, I am not sure I will be able to be as generous as you though! Mine just may have to stay here with me. Although, my son and his girlfriend do love red....
ReplyDeleteThelma - I love it - you are clever putting those santas in and the candy stripe binding is perfect. You're right, the quilting fits in perfectly. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh I remember this one, Thelma. I love your Santas in the snowballs. Your dad is going to love it.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading your blog daily and love seeing what you are working on. This quilt is wonderful and your Dad is going to love it! I'm glad you mentioned where the pattern comes from and the fabrics are perfect for staying warm this winter. Thank you for sharing, giving me ideas, inspiration and wonderful show and tell! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it!! And Cooper looks just like my Grand dog, Lola...think we have a ♥match♥ here!
ReplyDeleteTake care!
Paulette
Such a lovely gift! I like the flannel backing idea - so cuddly soft!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I don't know if I could give that one away, and I usually don't have a problem gifting my quilts either. I love it. I remember the reveal on that sew-along. There was a green one that was amazingly stunning.
ReplyDeleteLove that quilt, I have that pattern, just haven't made it yet. I am now inspired. What a cute dog.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt! Your Dad is going to have sweet dreams under it. :-) Have a happy day!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks grand. I remember it from last year, too. My top is hanging this year but it's nowhere near ready for quilting. But I do like looking at it. And it won't be going anywhere else, either. I get way too attached to each quilt I make.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt. I have to add it to my list. I might be able to get to it in 2025. LOL. Actually, I may have to cut line for this one.
ReplyDeletei have loved your snowball santa quilt since the beginning
ReplyDeletei love even more that you are giving it to your dad ... it will hug him when you can't
and it just doesn't get much better than that
That's the kind of Christmas quilt that one can love to use all winter long. Looks great and I'll bet your dad will love it.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, your Dad will love it! At least you get to visit with it when you see your Dad. I think Cooper is hoping to cuddle with Grandpa and the quilt in the recliner!
ReplyDeleteA red and white quilt is always one of my favorites. I remember you posting about making this quilt; it is another winner.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you, friend. Your blog is a pleasure to read, and I look forward to another great year of posts and quilts.
