Yes, this is my idea of a great progress picture, and no, I don't keep those scraps on the floor overnight. Who would want that greeting them when they walked into their sewing room!
I've got all my print pieces and parts cut for Coastal Lily, my current project and pattern by Minick & Simpson. I still need to cut my background fabric. I'm using my Fit to be Geese ruler for the geese.
For the 3 berries required for each bloom block, I'm using Karen Kay Buckely's Perfect Circles.
These templates are available everywhere online, Kimberly carries them at the Fat Quarter Shop, your local quilt shop probably carries them too.
Connecting Threads has a great tutorial on YouTube on how to use these templates. (click here for tutorial)
So here's everything I need to create my perfect circles. I'm enjoying working on these little circles in the evenings while I watch TV.
Since my berries are blue I figured I would store my berries in this handy little blueberry basket, 6 sets of three berries down, 30 more sets to go.
I've heard from a couple of quilters who are also going to make Coastal Lily and they are going to use yoyos for their berries, which I think will be very cute!
So far I'm already feeling like this lily quilt is going much faster than Carolina, not that it's a race or anything, but I'm happiest when I feel like I'm making progress, whether I'm actually making progress or not. The bright colors are cheering me up too, we've been lucky enough not to have the serious storms that are crossing the nation, but we've had more days of rain than not, so in this case, May and June showers should be bringing me Coastal Lily flowers.
You look so organized. My sewing room looks like a mad woman works there...I think I have too many projects going right now. Need to finish some up before starting anything else. That would help with the material sitting every where.
ReplyDeleteyour just so organized always love seeing how you work!
ReplyDeleteI have to send you a picture of the carolina lily quilt I made a few years ago, I forgot all about it!
until you had me thinking about this block a lot lately!
Kathie
I love how neat you are...thought I was alone (and strange!) Can't wait to see Coastal Lily come together, XOXO
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to watch your progress on the Coastal Lily... teasing us with bits and pieces in the pictures!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see this one. Something about this time of year just draws me to bright colors too!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a Longaberger Basket to me. ;) Looking good and I love the color palette you picked for this quilt.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like such a pile of fun! Love the circle hand work...makes me want to make some too!
ReplyDeletePlease tell me that the white container is a scrap catcher and not a trash catcher!!! I see some pieces worth keeping in that pile!
ReplyDeleteI really like the way that method makes the circles look so crisp and smooth. I can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteLots of berries are popping up there and sounds like you have it down pat. I bet you are enjoying the change in making those lily blocks and even though it looks like way more than the Carolina blocks, it will be a fun quilt. Can't wait to see your progress.....
ReplyDeleteI own all the sizes of 'Perfect Circles" and I love your organized 'table' of items to make berries but what is that thing near the lower right that looks like a comb? A needle case? And is the red thing in the same area a needle threader?
ReplyDeleteMay and June showers...LOL! That is a great line ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are so organized! I'm sure it helps things move along quickly when you take a few moments to set-up so nicely.
Loving the bright, cheerful fabrics you chose!
ReplyDeleteWow at the rate you're going you'll be done by the Fourth of July :)
ReplyDeleteI am always amazed at the progress you make. I guess my kids are just keeping me too busy these days for an productivity in the quilting department.
ReplyDeleteLove those Perfect Circles--the only way to make a circle as far as I'm concerned!I can't wait to see more blocks!
ReplyDeleteYou are making great progress ! Love those circles . You will have this quilt done in no time ;-D
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea how fun this is watching your progress on Coastal Lily. Thanks!!!!!!
