A Change of Scenery

My sewing room is looking pretty empty those days.

This room is going to be an office for Mr. Cupcake.  (the wallpaper will be coming down, can you believe it, what kind of man doesn't want mint green floral wallpaper)

As a matter of fact, I'm tired of that wallpaper myself, lol.  (to see what my sewing room looked like before I hauled most everything out click here and here)

I'm moving to this space, my old office, which I used daily until I retired 7 years ago.

I much prefer the lighting and view out the window from my old space, but my new space has two more feet in width and 4 more feet in length .  I'm thinking about replacing the light fixture with some sort of fluorescent lighting to improve things.  This room also has a walk in closet, a nice improvement over my small reach in closet in the old space.

So while those rooms get painted and new flooring I'm hanging out here, in this little loft office space at the top of the stairs.  The natural light in this space is amazing.  It's a little tight, and I had to lower the leaf on my table to get it to fit, but it's enabling me to sew every day, which is the only thing keeping me sane as we continue with our tasks of updating this house.

And here's what I have to show for my time.

My Moda Modern Building Blocks.

These blocks have been a great diversion.  They go together perfectly therefore I'm enjoying this pattern immensely.  With everything around me in an uproar, and not going perfectly, how great that one aspect of my life is going smoothly. Aaaah quilting, you complete me.

  1. I love your sewing table! Can't wait to see your new room when it is finished. I sew in a very small laundry room. To say that space is tight is a huge exaggeration! I'm not wishing my children away but one benefit I can see to when they are out on their own is that I'll have a sewing room!!!!

  2. Lots of confusion right now but it sounds like you're going to have a lovely new quilting space. Just think lots of storage, more light, more wall space to possibly showcase some lovely quilted minis. Sounds like it will be worth the wait. By the way great job on your quilt!

  3. Looks like progress is in the works and glad you have a space to sew in while it is updated. In the end, you will be happy with more space to work with. The "Building Blocks " are really nice and bet a great distraction right now....enjoy your sewing!

I agree about the view, I love the view out of my sewing room the light in here is not the best but OTT lights are the best. have fun organizing and setting up your new room!

  6. I'm changing sewing space, too, although I'm actually changing the entire house, as I'm moving, haha. Until we close on our house, we are "camping out" in a one bedroom apartment, so my temporary sewing space is much smaller than yours! But like you, it is enough to keep me sane!

  8. How about keeping both rooms for yourself and filling them with fabric and goodies and giving your husband the loft space!!! ;-) Take care.

  10. Getting a new, larger sewing room is exciting! Your temporary space is still bigger than what I have but as long as I can sew...I'm happy :)

  12. You are right to appreciate the positive possibilities of your future sewing room. If nobody else tell you about it, may I suggest a huge mirror in front of your window to duplicate the light ?

  13. Your building blocks are fantastic. I started searching for alternative blocks last night to replace a couple that I'd rather not make. ;) All the hard work will pay off with your new space. The closet alone will be worth the aggravation! Hope you post inspiration updates!

  14. good luck with the room move. Can't wait to see your new space. Very nice that you had another space to set yourself up in to continue sewing while the house is topsy turvy.

  15. What type of sewing table do you use? I currently just have a piece of cheap kitchen countertop on top of two file cabinets...it works but would love to have an actual sewing table where my machine would drop down so I could sew on top of that space....

  16. My husband got LED panel lights for my sewing room and I LOVE them!
The light is nicer than the fluorescent and there is no hum.
They are more expensive but I think worth every penny.
