Two things . . . .

Thing One - I got a new rug for my sewing room, finally!  The hardwood was installed 11 months ago, and I've been looking for the perfect sewing room rug for 12 months easy.

The first two area rugs I ordered did not suit, so I sent them back.  Then I found this one, sold by Pottery Barn Kids of all places.  I'm very familiar with Pottery Barn, but I have no kids, so I'm not as familiar with PBK, but they have an amazing assortment of rugs that I don't think look like rugs for a kids room, like this one.  If a rug with a hexagon pattern doesn't just scream sewing room, then I don't know what does.

Thing Two - I've been waiting since Spring Market for the release of this Miss Rosie's Quilt Co pattern, and it's finally available. Viola, pronounced Voi la, like Ta Da!!

This pattern finishes at 82" x 82", the blocks finish at nearly 19', nice size blocks.  I plan to start working on this pattern in a couple of weeks, although I've yet to decide on my fabric, except that I think there will be orange, because I'm going through an orange phase.  I have two friends who have also been waiting for this pattern and they plan to start in  a couple of weeks too, Sinta/ Pink Pincushion, and Nicole/Sisters Choice.  I like to make at least one basket quilt each year, this is my 2015 basket quilt.  It sure would be fun if you decided to sew along too!  All you need is 8 fat eighths for the baskets,  29 fat eighths for the flowers and 4 green fat quarters for the stems.

I hope you can squeeze it into your schedule!

  1. I've been waiting for this one too! Now that I know the fabric requirements, I'm off to scrounge through my stash. Maybe some three sister's flea market fancy? Or some thing more brighter? Decisions decisions.... Btw. Love the rug! It's just perfect. And I'm as in love with your sewing table as I was when I first saw it. I'm steadfast on my feelings there. Lol!

  3. The rug is perfect. I have been wanting to make a lily quilt. Are the stems on this one pieced or appliqued?

  4. OOOH, I love your rug! And Viola! is a great pattern! I love that the blocks are so large. Sometimes tiny pieces get me in trouble so maybe these will suit better.

  5. Completely understand the "orange phase"

  6. The pattern arrived this week but I really didn't look at it very closely. I l-o-v-e the name - Viola instead of Voila. (A really funny story with my late boss about that. Penny was almost named Viola.) I guess all this means I might have to play along with you on these gorgeous baskets. A new project might be just what the doctor ordered. Also love the new rug. It's perfect for your studio!

  8. The new oranges coming out will make you love them, i.e., Farmhouse. Orange and modern quilts are a path leading off from Shabby Chic, little by little. Love the carpet. Where do you find new patterns from Carrie Nelson these days. A look at "Miss Rosies" didn't lead me to patterns.

    1. Try Fatquartershop.com, or go to Quiltshops.com and put in "Miss Rosie's Quilt Company patterns"

    2. I found mine on Etsy--the pattern and shipping were both less expensive than other locations.

  9. Great carpet. But I'm intrigued by that table. You've probably blogged about it before, but I couldn't find a search bar on your blog to look for it. Could you tell me a little bit about it?

    1. I blogged about that table on April 16, 2010. Here's a link http://www.cupcakesndaisies.com/2010/04/tootin-my-horn.html
Horn no longer manufactures the table but dealers still have some for sale. I could not recommend it more. I have never worked for Horn or get paid for endorsing their products, but this table is wonderful!!

  13. That rug is perfect, especially given the project I'm working on now. I love your sewing table. Do you mind telling me who makes it and what the dimensions are?

  16. I love your new rug - glad you found the perfect one. They do have some neat stuff at PBK. I've been waiting for this pattern to come out, but I have too much on my plate right now to sew along. I'll be enjoying this vicariously through you, Nicole and Sinta. I see the pattern name as VIOLA - meaning a stringed orchestra instrument - since my son is a great violist! Now I have to buy the pattern to see the story behind Carrie's name.

  19. The rug is perfect for your sewing room, Thelma! And I love the new pattern from Miss Rosie but I am totally perplexed that it is spelled "Viola" and pronounced "Voila." That just doesn't make sense!

  20. Sure like the rug and the table! I have too many projects stacking up so I won't be joining in on this one. I'll follow the three of you.

  21. Would you please send my table back? LOL Seriously, I used to have a table very similar to that one, and I loved it so much. We moved into an apartment, and I had to get rid of it. I have wished for it back so many times.
    I love the rug too!

  22. You've got the perfect rug for a quilter's sewing room, you couldn't expect better !
When visiting my daughter in Indianapolis I always find something pleasant to buy at Pottery Barns, and very often at the so attractive kids department , such as curtains, throws, pillows... and how much to my regrets even if I'm no longer a child,

  23. Love your rug, so inspiring! Would you share your source for your table and light?

  26. I love the room and the carpet looks great! I like the modern look of that sewing table. Where did you get it?

  27. I want to make this quilt too! I love lily quilts. A couple of weeks gives me some time to get started. But I learned in the AYOS projects that you, Sinta, and Nicole are much faster than I am. I'll try to keep up, but if I get too far behind I look forward to enjoying the quilts you all create.
