We just got home from the nicest visit with our daughter, who lives in California. Recently she moved from her downtown LA apartment to an apartment in Pasadena. It was our first visit with her in the new city and we loved it. Pasadena has a whole different feel to it than downtown LA! We had the best time and our next visit cannot come quick enough.
Between the trip and other busyness July really snuck up on me. This morning I got out my "little slice of Americana" quilts for the sunroom. When I bought this furniture, I wasn't a quilter, but I've yet to find a quilt that doesn't look good on these red sofas, how lucky was that!
So anyway, Quilt # 52, One Star Two Star, Red Star Blue Star, the October Schnibbles pattern Cindy Lou Who, is on the left. I super sized the pattern so it would fit in the middle of my bed, in the middle of a new coverlet, that I had months to buy, but didn't, so here it is instead!

The quilt on the right is a quilt that's new to you, but this is the second 4th of July that I've had it. I just get it out for the month of July.
The center is comprised of court house step blocks that finish at 6 inches.
The center of the top is quilted with an overall stipple pattern.
But it's the border quilting that really makes this quilt.....
A bunting design quilted in the outer border, feathers in each cream triangle, and cross hatching in the blue star triangles. Just in case you are new to my blog, I don't quilt my tops, this work was done by a wonderful quilter in Indianapolis, Indiana. I just left it up to Connie and I don't think she could have done a better job.
For the back . . . .
I went with a red, white and cream print fabric that I thought had the same vintage feel to it as the fabric I used on the front. I like to match my backs to the fronts. (see Nicole's blog for an interesting discussion on this subject.)
I followed the pattern to the letter, no changes whatsoever, can you believe it!!
This pattern is in Jo's Remembrances book.
The book was published in 2007. I've heard her latest book, Coming Home, is wonderful too. I've yet to get my hands on it but hope to be able to peruse it in person, someday, before they're all gone!

Nothing but stars and flying geese, how could you go wrong with that pattern? I was thinking this would be nice in that 3 Sisters Park Avenue fabric, with that amazing border fabric in that family as the outer border. I'll have to give that some more thought......
So this is quilt number 42, I finished it in April, 2009, during a brief time in my quilting life when I had my panties in a wad about being perfect and liked to drove myself crazy getting that star fabric cut out just so. I'm glad I'm out of that stage. It took awhile, but I finally realized it's all about enjoying the process and that perfect really doesn't exist.
(but this quilt is pretty darn close!)
Victory Garden finished at 64" x 64", has 64 center blocks and 1,152 pieces.
Today is the Schnibbles Parade, for the pattern State Fair, over at Sinta's and Sherri's blogs...I'm still working on the outer border of A la Mode and didn't get to my Schnibbles project, it's a wonderful project that's perfect for summer, maybe I'll get to it in July......
