More Not JC and Something New

Eleven Not Jubilee Celebration blocks are all pieced.

My blocks finish at 7 1/2 inches and the block pattern is Sister's Choice.  Most Sister's Choice blocks don't have background fabric in that center square along each edge, but I liked this look better so that's what I went with.

I don't think that grey and maroon block on the left is going to make the cut.

The blocks in the pattern are called Anvil blocks and finish at 9 inches.

This top finishes at 91" x 108".  I've yet to decide what size to make my version, but I'm pretty confident it won't be that big.

I got something new for my sewing room last week.  I've been looking for a bulletin board/cork board for my sewing room for ages, but could never find the right size or the right look.  I stumbled across this magnetic board in a gift shop and love it, love it more than a cork board I think.

There are all kinds of cute magnets that you can buy for the board, plus, post-its stick to the metal surface just fine.  I have all sorts of lists and reminders, but they are in a basket and I don't look through that basket very often.  Now it's nice to have a few things that I want to think about out where they remind me to think about them.

This board is 16 inches square and is  made by Demdaco.

And now, on a totally different and humiliating subject, someone was directed to an offensive site from a link on my blog, the link to Diana's Coastal Lily quilt.  I'm not sure how something like that could happen, but if it happened to you I am so sorry. I don't even allow advertising on my blog, you can imagine how embarrassed I am that something like that happened on my blog.  I have removed the link and won't be linking to any other blogs for a while.  I'm not sure if my blog has a virus or what.   I did read online that some blog readers, when read from an iPad, are directing folks to offensive sites from links.  I don't subscribe to any of the blog readers and am not all that familiar with the process.  At any rate, you will not be getting any links from this blog so the coast is clear.  I run a "G" rated blog, don't even get close to "PG" and will never be "X" rated.  And again, I am so sorry if you were mistakenly directed to an offending site.

  2. Blocks are coming along quite nicely and wow...that is a large size. Agree that sometimes smaller is better. ;)) Love your new post-it board. Makes life easier and great way to add notes. I am not that great with computer sites and what a terrible thing to happen....:((

  3. What a cute bulletin board - where will it hang? Maybe above your desk or ironing board where you can think on what is on it?
I'm wondering how did the Jubilee/Anvil blocks become Sister's Choice or Thelma's Choice?
What a shame that you can't share links - the internet can be a scarey place. I did go see the other Coastal Lily and had no probs, but I can understand your reasoning.
I'm off to sew a binding on a baby quilt today, and then it will be back to the mountains for us.

  4. I also was able to view Diana's blog with no problem. I can understand your reluctance to post links, though. Love your blocks.

  5. Those blocks are lovely, as is your new notice board! I went to see the other version of Coastal Lilies and got there with no trouble - I have no idea how that could have happened, did you report it to your blog platform/provider?

  6. I did end up at the alternate site, but just clicked out of it. I figured it was an aberration and didn't think any more of it until I read this. Don't take it so to heart. It didn't change the way I think of you or your site. I have always enjoyed links because they expand my horizons. Thanks for sharing your stitching.

    1. Were you reading my blog through a reader service, like Bloglovin? And on what type of device were you reading my blog when you clicked on the link? Some folks were directed to the correct blog, I'm trying to figure the difference between the good links and the bad links, thanks so much.

    2. Hi Thelma.
I was reading your blog through my bookmark menu, not a reader service, and on my Mac laptop. As I said, when the content didn't match your words, I just clicked out of it. It wasn't a big deal to me, but I can see why you would want your site to represent you perfectly. Thanks for sharing all you do. Happy quilting!

  7. Pretty scary about the links issue...I post a lot of links and sure hope that doesn't happen....yikes!
Love your blocks...especially the one that might not make the cut :)

  8. What fun to see how you changed the pattern. I've made Sister's Choice before but not as a two color block. Very nice.
FYI: I got to the Coastal Lily correctly from my Google blogger reading list.

  9. I'm reading you through Bloglovin' and all is well. I LOVE your Sister's Choice blocks -- it is one of my favorite blocks and I've never seen it done in two colors before. Bravo! I just might be trying something like that!

  10. I love the magnetic pin up board. So practical and pretty too. I didn't try the link but how annoying that people with nothing better to do cause trouble for others.

  11. I wouldn't be so quick to eliminate the grey and maroon block yet...I can see it's purpose in the overall quilt. Like the person who marches to a different drum and stands out...hmmm, did I just give myself away, XOXO

So sorry about the link problem. I link back to other's blogs too so this is very concerning :(

  13. I've seen boards like that at my local Hallmark store and have always wanted one just didn't know where I could stick it. My sewing room is a perfect place. Thanks for the idea!
