The Long Road Home just got Longer . . .

So I thought I had everything all figured out for this quilt.  The pattern called for 90 nine patch blocks, 9 blocks across by 10 blocks down.  I decided to make my project 8 blocks across by 9 blocks down for a total of 72 nine patch blocks.  I got all the blocks on my design wall but somehow, when I started connecting the nine patch blocks and the setting blocks I got off, and ended up making the larger version by accident.

Connecting those rows for blocks set on point sometimes throws me off.

So I'm making 18 more nine patch blocks and going with the original pattern size.  I'm sure it will all be fine in the end, which is near!

  1. This is looking great Thelma! I am doing the cutting for X-Rated, one of the quilts from Schnibbles Times Two, and I keep miscounting where I am because it is all on the diagonal. I'm glad it's not just me!

  2. LOL! I've done the same thing (several times...) It's the on-point thing. It'll be gorgeous, though.

  4. Setting blocks on point is my achilles heel. I nearly always screw it up somehow!

  5. I made this quilt last year and I can tell you, I thought I'd never finish making all those 9-patch units! I eventually got it finished, and I love it. The end definitely justifies the mean! You'll be so pleased with the results!

I've only done a few quilts on point. It intimidates me to pieces!

  10. I still hate doing quilts on point; I always get confused joining the rows. The quilt is looking great.

  14. An on-point setting can fool you. I just put together one on-point. I don't like sewing the longer rows of the piece but love the short ones. You have a good quilt top going!

  16. You must have just whipped that one up when I wasn't looking! Did you stay up all week and make all of those blocks... so the other 18 should only take you a couple of hours right? It's a beautiful quilt Thelma... it looks so inviting!
