Random Sewing and Stuff

I enjoyed my nice long weekend, how about you?

Remember when I got home from Paris, and I wanted to do some sewing but was too tired to come up with a pattern or plan so I made this?

Well I've made another one, no plan, just random sewing.

I do have a plan for these.  These are the medium sized Dresden blocks for my Dresden Doilies project.

I'm not going to start appliquéing any of these blocks to the red background fabric until I have all the red centers on.

I've given a couple a trunk shows this summer and earned a little spending money.  My first instinct was to add the cash to my fabric fund, since I have a limited budget.  But then this caught my eye and I couldn't resist.

At first, spending $100 on thread seemed a little extravagant, and that would buy a lot of fabric.  But my thread box mainly holds grey, red, black, white and beige thread, so I could use some colorful thread, plus my thread of choice is Aurifil, so splurged on this box of thread.

And once I got this box in the mail, I knew I had made a good choice!

  1. Those colorful doilies sure are pretty! I can't wait to see how they look on the red background. I've been wanting to make a hst quilt ever since I saw a navy and pink version in Quilty magazine. Yours with the white solid and mix of prints is going to look great!

  5. I just ordered my first spool of Aurfil thread this morning. I can't wait to try it out. The boxes of threads are so tempting. The colors suck me in but they are out of my budget right now.

  6. Camille's threads are gorgeous.......so now for the big question! Are you going to use them to sew.....OR will you display them as a decoration??? PS I love, love, love the doilies...I am being so tempted to start one. Kristy

  11. What packaging for your thread! Like a box of candy! Very nice. The colors are pretty and as quilters we have learned that better thread is MUCH nicer to use.

  12. Thread is such an important investment. Nice work. Paris agrees with you. Maybe you should make it a yearly inspirational event :)

  13. I love your random sewing! I really love that thread. I got a few spools as a gift once... but it is a little spendy. On the other hand there is a whole lot of thread on each spool and for some reason it seems to wind up on a bobbin nice and tight (but not too tight). A few extra pluses.
