Last to the Dance . . . . . .

Better late than never I suppose........

I'm joining in the fun of the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along sponsored by Moose on the Porch. It seemed every I blog I visited the last two weeks was participating, and all the blocks looked adorable. The only thing holding me back was that I own one jelly roll. The jelly roll I just personally rolled and put in my Shangri la purse, there's no way I'm using that fabric, plus it's mainly leftover lights, not a good color way for a sampler quilt.

So no jelly roll for me, just scraps, but that will work too.

I've been wanting to make a twin size quilt to donate to a local children's home but hadn't come across a pattern or idea to suit. I think this quilt along will be perfect.

So here's Block One!

The Block Two pattern will be revealed today, so I just barely got in. Although really, anyone can join at anytime.

The multi colored dot fabric will be my background fabric. I mainly just want a cheerful and bright quilt and plan to add a rainbow of color for each block.

So in addition to making Block One of the JRSQA, I started my Jacob's Ladder project this weekend.

Here's where I stand on piecing four hundred, 2 1/2 inch, four patch blocks. As you can see, I've got a little work ahead of me on this one! This pattern requires 80 six inch blocks made up of half square triangles and four patches. What could be simpler? I'm thinking this is going to be a fun and relaxing project.

I would have gotten more done but I lost an hour this weekend, and for some reason, it felt like I lost five. I hope I get back on schedule this week.

  1. Oh, I love the darks and lights! It will be so lovely and dramatic when it's all done! I hear ya about the time change. I felt like it wouldn't affect me, but I sure was in bed early last night :)

  2. Thelma, Your work space is just way too organized. But when you are making that many 2.5 inch four patches, I guess organization is a plus. I feel just like you about losing the hour. Right now I feel like I need to go back to bed!

  3. I'm with you on the time change! What a great idea to use the jelly roll quilt along for your charity quilt. I love the rainbow of colors you plan to use. This first block turned out great! I, too, have seen these blocks popping up all over. What fun. Love how your Jacob's Ladder is starting! I look forward to seeing it progress. Happy Monday!

  4. It's never too late to join in the fun. I'm always in awe of how organized and clean your space is. You make me so ashamed...ok maybe not ashamed, slightly chagrined perhaps.
Those colours are so great for a kids quilt.
I'm with you on the time change, and especially unhappy as someone called at 9 new time, 8 old time on Sunday! Ugh. Not happy.

  6. Oh my goodness, this time change is hitting me hard. Sophie didn't know about it and got me up at 5:00 this morning.
I envy you being able to stay home and sew! I got some things accomplished this weekend, but this morning I want to blow off going to work and stay home.
Your sewing table is huge! And what a bright lovely room!

  10. Oh I just love your block...it is soooooooooo happy! Perfect for the children's home. Your Jacob's ladder is going to be awesome. Lots and lots of piecing. I felt the same way yesterday...I took a nap (I rarely ever do that) and I was still pooped. Today was better but I'm still feeling a few clicks off.

  11. You certainly don't need a jelly roll... I LOVE your fabrics :)

This is the first time I have used a JR, so it's not a usual thing for me either.

  12. I'm glad you decided to join--thanks for the compliment on the embroidery I added to my Jelly Roll block, too. I'm looking forward to seeing your second--the fabric it so happy, and who cares if you don't have a jelly roll?! LOL! I've found as time goes by, I'm more attracted to the happy colors, and I'm working on some disappearing 9-patch blocks now for a picnic quilt using colors somewhat similar to yours. Fun, isn't it?
